Presentation transcript:

In a Spin Year 1 Term 2 MATHEMATICS As Mathematicians, we will be practising improving our addition and subtraction skills. We will apply them in a number of contexts, such as using money or when measuring. We will name and begin to identify the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. ENGLISH As Writers, we will be using ‘Flight School’ by Lita Judge and ‘Zog and the Flying Doctors’ by Julia Donaldson to inspire us. We will create character and setting descriptions, book reviews, diary entries and a variety of poems. We will use ‘Flight School’ to create a class story map and will write our own versions of the story. P.E (Friday) As Dancers, we will be developing our ability to balance and will learn how to adjust our posture to create shapes and show different heights. We will think about how to move in a timely manner to music and use our bodies to join different poses through various modes of travel. HISTORY As Historians, we will be asking questions and finding out about the history of flight. We will use picture sources and books to help us to research significant people. We will create fact files about the Wright Brothers and learn about Amelia Earheart. READING As Readers, we will be developing our knowledge of phonics and applying it to help us decode an increasing number of unknown words. We will discuss what is happening in the books we read and will make simple inferences. SCIENCE As Scientists, we will be continuing to discuss the weather and the seasons. We’ll find out how the weather changes throughout the year and describe it. We will look at how the day length changes across the seasons. DT As Designers, we will plan how to make rockets and use junk model materials to create them. We will practise our cutting and joining skills. GEOGRAPHY As Geographers, we will be looking at the world, discussing how the earth is divided into continents and locating where we live. We will use atlases to help us. We will find out about Antarctica and consider its landscape and weather and how it differs from the UK. ART As Artists, we will be creating small sculptures using our knowledge of shape. We will collect leaves and focus on drawing to include detail. We will use crayons to complete rubbings of our leaves.
