1 Timeless Toys… Year 1 Term 2 2015 Maths History
Recognising and naming common 2D and 3D shapes. Describe position, direction and movement. Count to and across 100, forwards, backwards beginning from 1 or any given number. Count, read and write numerals numbers to 100 in numerals. Given a number identify one more and one less. Compare and describe length, capacity and weight. Recognise and use language relating to days of the week and months of the year. Add, subtract and solve problems. History To consider changes in living memory through comparing toys past and present. Find out about Victorian toys and how toys have changed across the years. To use timelines and language to sequence and communicate the passing of time. Learn about the significant lives of individuals in the past (Guy Fawkes, Queen Victoria). Events beyond living memory (The Gunpowder Plot). Understand some ways we find out about the past (artefacts/paintings). Art / DT Use a variety of tools to explore the use of line, shape and colour- poppy and firework pictures. Explore the work of artists from different periods of time- Victorian Christmas cards. Sew, thread a needle, cut and glue. Computing The children will be using 2simple software to create their own eBook. They will also be using sound equipment to record a talking book based upon ‘The gingerbread man’. Science To learn to identify common materials. To name and compare the properties of common materials. To investigate waterproof materials. Timeless Toys… Year 1 Term 2 2015 Music De Cappo Scheme – rhythmic and singing activities Literacy Daily phonics work at appropriate phase. Guided reading. Poetry. Non-fiction writing on Guy Fawkes. Fantasy stories. Christmas stories. Labels, lists and captions. Skills to develop: Using a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence and for a proper noun. Using a full stop at the end of a sentence. Using the conjunction ‘and’ to join two sentences together. Stories to include: The gingerbread man, Old bear, Harvey Slumfenburger’s present.
