1 Important dates for Autumn 1
This overview aims to provide you with enough information to be able to share and discuss the activities being covered in school with your child. It may also provide opportunities for you to visit places of interest connected with the learning taking place at school. It may be that having read the overview you are able to offer experiences and/or resources to enrich your child’s learning experiences. Class 1 Autumn Term 2017 Where In The World…? This pamphlet outlines the content of the curriculum to be covered this term. Important dates for Autumn 1 PE days this term will be: Monday & Thursday Exciting dates for this half term include: Stunning Start: Animals around the world – Monday 11th September 2017 Whipsnade Zoo Trip: Friday 20th October 2017

Counting, comparing, ordering numbers, Measurement Number & Place value , Addition & Subtraction Simple fractions, Geometry – properties of shapes English Daily phonics & Handwriting Descriptive writing – character, settings & creating short stories Listening to & discussing different texts Using non-fiction texts to find information & creating our own non-fiction texts Science Seasons – Autumn Changes/Weather patterns History / Geography Using globes & atlases Looking at different habitats around the world – tundra, rainforest, oceans, savannah Naming & locating countries & continents Comparing UK & worldwide locations including weather patterns PE & Games Multi-skills Dance Art / DT DT: Textiles – collaging ART: Drawing ART SKILLS: Pencil – different line types, tones, sketching skills, colour ICT Logging on & off, Education City, Lexia We are Treasure hunters Using and programming a toy (BeeBot etc) to follow simple instructions to find buried treasure. Developing knowledge and understanding of algorithms and how to create/edit them. RE / PSHE RE: Who is a Christian and What do they believe? Learning about the Christian faith – special place of worship, stories from the bible, festivals PSHE: Relationships Healthy relationships Recognising/managing emotions/behaviour within relationships including bullying Music Hey You Listening to & appraising music Participating & performing in different musical activities.
