1 Curriculum Newsletter Spring 1
Maths We will also be focusing on addition and subtraction within 20, learning the different skills and resources available to answer addition and subtraction questions. We will also be looking at number and place value within 50. This terms topic is - Rio de Vida Science This half term in Science we are going to be looking at seasonal changes and the weather. We are going to be observing what the weather is like where we live, making a weather diary, and comparing the weather in England with the weather in Rio. English English will be taught alongside phonics. This half term they will be writing instructions, they will be making their own carnival masks and writing instructions on how to make them! We will also be writing a narrative, and focusing on key writing skills. Curriculum Newsletter Spring 1 Year 1 PE Our topic for PE this half term is Yoga. We will be looking at developing co-ordination and agility by using a variety of yoga movements and poses. D/T In DT this half term the children will be making the popular Brazillian cake, the Brazillian Beijinho! They will be following a ‘design, make and evaluation’ process. Music In music we follow a scheme called Charanga! As our topic is Rio we will be listening to and creating our own Samba music! The children also take part in a weekly singing assembly. PSHE This half term in PSHE we will be focusing on ‘Health and Safety.’ This includes, keeping clean, eating well, keeping fit, keeping safe, and how we stay safe on the internet. Art This half term the children will be using a variety of materials to create their own carnival mask! Computing The children will be learning how to use a computer to paint. They will also learn how to stay safe on the internet. RE In RE this half term we are looking at friendships. We will focus on how different religions teach us to be a good friend. Homework Please find 10 minutes each night to read with your child. You can ask them questions about the characters, what they think is going to happen next and what their favourite part of the story is. You can help at home by consolidating their learning at school. Practise their phonics work and spellings. The children may find it useful to visit the library and research Rio, where it is and what the weather is like there. Please also complete one Chilli Challenge Homework each week. Homework should be returned to school on Wednesdays.
