Welcome to 8th Grade Class of 2014 Welcome to 8th Grade Class of 2014! Here are the things I need to know to succeed in 8th Grade.

Behavior and Work Habits What I need to Culminate LAST YEARS REQUIREMENTS THIS YEARS MAY BE DIFFERENT Grades I need 70 units to culminate. I get 5 units for each class I pass. I can only fail two classes and still culminate. Failing English or Math counts as two fails. I can make up some failed classes by going to intersession. Behavior and Work Habits If I get more than 6 “U”s I can not culminate. I can not remove any “U”s by going to intersession. This means once I get a “U” I am stuck with it.

School Supplies I must bring pens and pencils, paper, 3 ring binder and my planner to school every day. Only blue or black ink pens are allowed. My teachers are not expected to provide pens, pencils and paper. Nothing in life is free. If I need a pen, pencil or paper from my teacher I will have to pay for it.

Tardies I am expected to be in my seat when the bell rings. The first time I am tardy to class I will get a verbal warning. The second time I am tardy I will get after school detention. The third time I am tardy I will get a “U” for cooperation on the next report card.

Detention If I get in trouble in class I will get 30 minutes detention with my teachers. My counselor will pick up all the students who have detention and take them to Ms Naponelli’s room for detention. During detention I am expected to sit silently for 30 minutes. If I don’t go to detention or cause trouble during detention I will get a one-hour detention the next day. If I get in any trouble with a substitute I will automatically get 3 hours Saturday detention.

8th Grade Field Trip My 8th grade class will be taking a field trip during the year. Going on the field trip is a privilege which means no one gets to go automatically. If I cause trouble for my teachers I will not be allowed to go on the 8th grade field trip with everyone else.

8th Grade Activities 8th grade activities include: The 8th grade picnic and culmination. I can only participate in the 8th grade activities if I have enough units to culminate and do not have too many “U”s. I will have to pay for the 8th grade activities. I should buy my tickets as soon as I can because the tickets sell out quickly. The price for 8th grade activities is cheaper if I pay my 8th grade dues.

8th Grade B Track Team All my teachers are part of the 8th grade B track team. This means all my teachers have meetings together twice a week. At their meetings my teachers talk about everything happening at school, including the students. This means my teachers are talking about ME and the progress I am making toward meeting the standard. So all my teachers will know all the good and bad things I do in all my classes.

Text Books I will get a text book for each of my classes. I am expected to take care of my books. I will have to bring my books to school whenever my teachers tell us we need them. At the end of the school year I will have to return my books. If I lose any of my books, or they are damaged I will be expected to pay for them. I will only get credit for returning my own book. So if I return a different book than I was given I will still have to pay for my original book.

Hallways and Stairwells The hallways and stairwells are not play and hangout places. I need to remember to Keep to the Right while Walking and Talking on my way to class. I am expected to get to class without causing problems. I need to remember that any adult can give me detention; even between classes.

Cell Phones and Electronics I am allowed to bring a cell phone to school only if it is kept turned off and closed with my parents’ permission slip wrapped around the phone. If I try to use my phone at school it will be taken away from me by my teachers and given to the Deans. I must have a parent come to school to pick up my phone. I am not allowed to bring iPods, cameras or any other electronic devices to school at all. If I do and ANYONE sees it I will lose it.

B Average Activities If I get a B average I will be invited to participate in fun activities after school with my teachers. These activities will be once a month so if I do not have a B average I can work hard to bring up my grades for the next month.
