1 WELCOME TO 6 TH GRADE! Ms. Akpabio a.k.a Ms. A Social Studies

4 STUDENT EXPECTATIONS 1.Come prepared! Bring your textbook, interactive notebook, paper, pencils, art supplies, homework, etc.- supplies written on white board outside classroom. 2.Follow the teacher’s directions and all classroom and school procedures. 3.Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself. 4.Use appropriate language – no teasing, put- downs, or inappropriate texting.

5 Discipline PLAN Students are expected to behave in a respectful manner. Discipline issues may be handled through a verbal warning, take a break, silent lunch, detentions, phone calls home, referrals, etc.

6 REWARDS Daily………………………………… Candy Weekly……………………………….. Fun Friday Monthly………………Movie- you bring popcorn, snacks and drinks.

FAIRNESS – Take turns and share! CARING – Be compassionate and show you care! CITIZENSHIP – Do your share to make your community and school better!

E: Everyone keeps hands, feet, objects, and gestures to themselves. C: Classes begin on time with all materials and homework needed. T: Teachers’ directions are followed the first time.

14 ENTERING CLASS Line up to the left of my door. You are expected to enter the class quietly, sit down, and begin working on your bell ringer. Once you have entered the classroom, you are in and working!

15 TARDIES You are expected to be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings or you will be marked TARDY. Excessive TARDIES will result in a phone call home, detentions, on team, referral.

16 AGENDAS In your agenda, write down your homework after you have finished your bell ringer. You may also write down the Learning Objective of the day and upcoming test dates. This is your choice and the opportunity to be organized!.

17 TURNING IN HOMEWORK Homework is turned in at the beginning of class, Students will pass work forward and I or a student selected will collect them. If no homework is assigned you should study your interactive notebook for at least 30 minutes!

18 ABSENCES Parent notes for absences should be taken to the office during homeroom. If you are absent, you are responsible for making up the work that you missed. There are folders located on the EAST wall of the classroom. Locate the date missed then look in the folder for any notes, worksheets, homework assignments, etc.,. You will be given adequate time to complete your work. Please see Ms. A if you have any questions. If you are absent for a test or quiz you will need to meet with me during ELT to make it up.

19 PASSES RESTROOM PASS  Each student is given 4 restroom passes a semester for all four of your core contents. When those passes are depleted, you will not be permitted to use the restroom. LIBRARY PASS You must request a LIBRARY PASS from your teacher before going to the library to check out a book. You must show me you have completed your work and have no missing assignments to go to the library during class time

20 BATHROOM PASS If you need to use the bathroom during class, you MUST have permission. Permission will only be given for emergency. Passes to use the drinking fountain will NOT be given. When possible, please take your bathroom and water breaks between classes.

21 GRADING PAPERS Many times papers will be graded during class. When grading in class, only mark answers with an X that are INCORRECT. Do NOT mark answers that are correct.

22 PASSING OUT PAPERS First semester papers with no names will be placed on the white board until claimed. 5 points will be deducted from your grade when entered. Second Semester papers with no names will be thrown away First couple of students who are done with their bell ringers and have written homework in their agendas will be allowed to pass out graded papers.

23 ASKING FOR HELP If you need help or have a question, simply raise your hand and I will get to you as soon as I can! Or….you can write your question on a piece of paper and place it on my desk.

24 FINISHED WITH WORK? If you finish your work early, please read your library book, study, or finish work for another class.

25 CLASSROOM SNACKS You are NOT allowed to bring snacks or drinks to consume in class. If there is a special situation please speak with Ms. A.

26 CLASS DISMISSAL After the bell rings, your teacher will dismiss you. Do NOT pack up or leave your seats until instructed by the teacher.

28 CELL PHONES I can tell when your texting so don’t do it. There is no texting or making phone calls during class. Repeated offenses will result in disciplinary action which includes a warning, taking phone away until the end of the day, phone call home, and having a parent come to school and pick up the phone. CELL PHONES MUST STAY IN YOUR LOCKER DURING CLASS UNLESS WE ARE UTILIZING THEM FOR AN EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITY!!!

29 PARENT CONTACT Parents will be contacted by email or phone due to disruptive behavior, missing assignments, poor performance on tests and daily work, etc.
