Math Star Students Literacy Birthdays 10/16-10/20 Calendar This week in Jolly Phonics we will learn the letter sounds for th, qu, ou, oi, & ue. Please continue to practice them at home daily. Our book of the week is “Monster Sandwich” and our sight word is “on”. We will continue to practice proper letter formation in our “Handwriting Without Tears” book. In Reading Workshop, we will continue in our Fiction Unit of Study. The students have made it to 8 minutes of independent reading! We will now learn how to do Buddy reading. They will have a reading buddy and practice how to sit, how to share a book, and how to take turns while reading together. This allows the students to practice their reading strategies with a peer. In Writing Workshop, students will continue to listen to mentor texts that provide them with ideas about being a writer. They will continue to write about things they know, making their pictures match their writing and even labeling their pictures. We will again be comparing numbers to 10. Last week, we made a chart with the words, “More” and “Fewer” along with pictures, so that the students would have it to refer to. This week we will continue to practice looking at groups and numbers to find the group that has more or fewer. Students will also be asked to think about how they know which number is more. They will use strategies such as a number line, counters, and counting.
