Industrial Revolution CHAPTER 25 Industrial Revolution Section 1

Industrial Rev. Begins in Britain Both the Agricultural and industrial Revolution began in G.B. The agricultural Revolution grew larger in need, because of the growth of the cities. This produced new farming methods (enclosure movement)

Farmers combined small farmers land into large scale farming land, this was called the enclosure movement. Jethro Tull invented a seed drill to plant seeds in regular rows. Charles “Turnip” Townsend developed crop rotation.

Political stability gave Britain a great advantage Factors of production- G.B. had what economists call factors of production, or the basic resources for industry: land, capital, and labor. Also the British Islands and overseas colonies represented huge markets and a great demand for British goods. Resources for Production Water power/coal Iron Ore River Harbors Political stability gave Britain a great advantage

The textile industry:- The cotton textile industry was the first to use mechanization, Most of the cotton came from the southern United States. In 1793 Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin, this did the work of 50 men. The Southern United States became the leading cotton producing center of the world.

Transportation James Watt: Steam Engine Transportation: John McAdam used brick and stone Railroads and steam boats: In 1814 a steam propelled moving engine or locomotive was created Richard Trevithick, Steam driven locomotive. Railroads Spurred Industrial Growth Jobs Boosted England’s Agricultural/Fishing Industry
