Where am I supposed to sit? This eliminates the possibility of the shy student having to float around the room until he/she finds a place that has not already been occupied by a group of long time friends. --I also keeps the chatty best friends away from each other. --

Who IS this teacher? Things that I enjoy: --Reading --Talking to family and friends --Technology!! --Computers --Book --Students enjoy knowing that you are a REAL person! Sharing this type of information breaks down the invisible wall between the teacher and the student. It lets them know that you are a regular person who enjoys regular things outside of school.

Will this teacher treat me fairly? YES, Always!

Grading Guidelines Major Grades = 60% Examples: Minor or Daily Grades = 30% Examples: Worksheets, warm-up’s/ bell ringers, maps, stations activities, short essays anything completed in class and turned in for a grade. These assignments can also be counted as a double daily grade. Homework = 10% Examples – Vocabulary, current events article, etc. Major Grades = 60% Examples: Test – Campus Common Assessment CCA, District Common Assessment DCA, Projects – Posters, Research Projects, Book of Knowledge (BOK) Test.

Special Guideline This classroom is a “No Whining Zone”. That means that there will be no whining, for ANY reason. Everything that I do is in your best interest, so please respect the “No Whining Zone” this year.

Not Following Guidelines will result in . . . 1st Warning and documentation 2nd Action Plan, Parental Contact, Behavior Essay- 2 pages hand written to be returned by next class period. 3rd Disciplinary Referral

Severe Clause Any student who uses profanity, fights, damages school property (this includes the property of the teacher and other students), or is disrespectful (as defined by the teacher) will be sent to the office IMMEDIATELY.

Entering the Classroom: Please enter quietly. Have a seat. Take out your materials. Follow prompt on the board without being prompted. Class begins when you step over the threshold.

NO NEED TO MAKE A PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT When you are tardy . . . Enter quietly. Excused Tardy: Place on my desk or hand the pass to me. Unexcused = tardy; sign in and have a seat. Take out your materials and begin working immediately. NO NEED TO MAKE A PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Getting Your Attention I will stand in front of the class. Raise my hand. Wait for everyone to be quiet. Begin speaking.

Paper Heading Put your FIRST AND LAST NAME on EVERYTHING you submit for a grade… EVERYTHING… ALWAYS… FOREVER! **Copy of “Successful Teaching” --Thank you Rosemary Wong! Finish Classwork Early? “What do I do next?”

When you have completed the Day’s Activities: Work on unfinished Social Studies assignments. Come see me to proofread your work. Choose a book from the shelf and READ! Work on homework for this class or another subject.

After an Excused Absence Go to the homework folder or look at my BOK and copy the assignment. Retrieve any handouts. Make-up work for unexcused absences is not available.

Early dismissal - Please let me know as you enter the classroom. I will be at the door. Quietly raise your hand to get my attention. Pack your materials and leave at the scheduled time.

Passing in Papers Collect your assignments in the middle of the table, facing the same direction. A student will pick up the papers and put them in the correct drawer that corresponds to your class period. OR you may be asked on the Daily Directions (PowerPoint) to turn in your paper BEFORE the bell rings. Put the paper in the correct drawer – by period. NEVER take anyone’s paper from the drawer! This may be considered academic dishonesty resulting in a zero grade!!! DO NOT hand me your paper. NEVER leave your work on my desk!!! You may place it in the correct box at the back of the room.

Classroom Discussions PLEASE participate. I want to hear what you have to say. Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion. If your question is off the topic, write it down and ask later.

Moving Around the Room during instruction You must ask permission. Do not ask during a classroom discussion unless it is an emergency. Do NOT sharpen pencils or get up to throw items away while I am teaching.

The teacher dismisses you, not the bell. Class Dismissal The teacher dismisses you, not the bell. Do not start packing up prior to the bell. We are not in kindergarten; do not line up at the door. Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you with “HAVE A GOOD DAY!”
