2 Today’s Agenda Please pass in your Summer Math Packets now. Please bring it in tomorrow if you don’t have it today. Review Guidelines and Procedures in this presentation. Homework: Please ask your parents to view this presentation on Edline and both you and one of your parents must sign the acknowledgement form. Class Picture. Tomorrow we will meet in the Library’s Computer Lab to create your sign-in for your online textbook.

6 What will I be doing this year? Academic Algebra I: This is a course in modern Algebra. Its emphasis is learning and reinforcing algebraic skills and operations necessary for successful problem solving and subsequent math courses. Topics covered include simplifying expressions, computation, solving equations, inequalities, systems of equations, solving quadratic equations, operations on polynomials, properties of exponents, and probability. Mathematical modeling and integration of calculators are often utilized during the course.

9 Classroom Guidelines

10 Guideline #1 Be in your assigned seat and working on the assigned bell-work when the tardy bell rings.

11 Ms. Corkrens Math Class Today’s Big Idea! Bellwork: It Might be a few review problems called a “Do Now” or Warmup”. Or I might ask you to write out Homework problems on the boards. Objectives is another name for the Big Idea of the lesson: Students will be able to understand the classroom policies and procedures.

12 Guideline #2 Bring ALL materials (pencil, notebook, & calculator) to class and take them with you when you leave.

13 Guideline #3 Follow directions the first time they are given.

14 Guideline #4 Treat each person in this room with respect and dignity.

15 Guideline #5 Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in the BRRSD handbook.

16 Special Guideline This classroom is a “No Whining Zone”. That means that there will be no whining, for ANY reason. Everything that I do is in your best interest, so please respect the “No Whining Zone” this year.

20 Not Following Guidelines will result in... 1 st – Warning and documentation 2 nd – Action Plan, Parental Contact, and 30 minute after school detention Fridays Only!! 3 rd – Disciplinary Referral

21 Severe Clause Any student who uses profanity, fights, damages school property (this includes the property of the teacher and other students), or is disrespectful (as defined by the teacher) will be sent to the office IMMEDIATELY.

22 Classroom Procedures

23 Entering the Room Please enter quietly. Have a seat. Take out your materials. Review the agenda. Begin bell-work assignment.

24 When you are tardy... Enter quietly. Excused : Place excuse note in the black pail on my desk. Unexcused : Sign tardy list on front table Have a seat and take out your materials.

25 Getting Your Attention I will... Stand in front of the class. Raise my hand. Wait for everyone to be quiet. Begin speaking.

26 Paper Heading Name Date Block Page number & assigned problems (if applicable) Place on all assignments

27 After an Excused Absence Go to the homework notebook. Copy the homework. Retrieve any handouts. Sign the notebook. Make-up work for unexcused absences is not available. Make-up tests: During AB/Thursdays after school

28 Pink Slip This is for students who do not have the assigned homework. Fill it out. Sign and date it. Place it in the designated tray.

30 Finish Classwork Early “What do I do next?”

31 Activities Work on unfinished MATH assignments. Review notes. Start working on tonight's homework. Read a book silently.

32 Scheduled Dismissal Please let me know as you enter the classroom. Quietly raise your hand to get my attention. Pack your materials and leave at the scheduled time. If it is an emergency, quickly get my attention and I will assist you.

33 Turning in Papers Place your paper on the desk next to you. – Right side If/When you receive a paper, place yours on top and continue passing the stack to your right. I will come by and collect all stacks.

34 Classroom Discussions PLEASE participate. I want to hear what you have to say. Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion If your question is off the topic, write it down and ask later.

35 Moving Around the Room You must ask permission. Do not ask during a classroom discussion unless it is an emergency. If you have to use the bathroom, raise 3 fingers

36 Class Dismissal The teacher dismisses you, not the bell. Do not start packing up prior to the bell. Remain seated until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you with “Have a nice day! ”
