6 CLASSROOM GUIDELINES Be in your assigned seat and working on the assigned bellwork when the tardy bell rings. Bring ALL books and materials to class and take them with you when you leave. Follow directions the first time they are given. Treat each person in this room with respect and dignity. Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in the UHS and Ferndale Public Schools handbooks.

7 Special Guideline This classroom is a “No Whining Zone”. That means that there will be no whining, for ANY reason. Everything that I do is in your best interest, so please respect the “No Whining Zone” this year.

12 Classroom Procedures Entering Class “Have a great day!” Exiting Class
After entering the room, students may not leave without permission. Upon entering, students should go to their assigned seats and prepare for class. Begin working on bellwork Exiting Class The teacher dismisses you, not the bell. Do not start packing up prior to the bell. Students are responsible for cleaning the area around their desks before leaving the room. Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you with “Have a great day!”

13 Classroom Procedures Writing Utensils Being Prepared
Students may use a pencil or a pen (blue or black ink) Blue or black ink should be used for formal writing assignments. Typed or computer generated work will be accepted for formal writing assignments Being Prepared Bring required materials each day. (3-ring binder, loose leaf paper, writers notebook, reading materials, assignments, pen and a pencil)

TARDY: Get a pass from the office Enter quietly Sign TARDY list on top of cabinet. Attach your pass to the clipboard Quietly have a seat and take out your materials.

17 After an Excused Absence
Check the daily folder for the objective and any handouts Copy the homework. Retrieve any handouts. Make-up work for unexcused absences is not available. Make-up assignments/assessments: See Mrs. Arnold after-school (Tues-Thurs) or before school (by appointment)

18 Student Responsibility Card This is for students who do not have the assigned homework.
Fill it out. Sign and date it. Turn it in with the homework papers.

Activities Work on unfinished English assignments. Silent reading Start working on tonight's homework.

21 Turning in Papers Pass papers forward
If/When you receive a paper, place yours on top and continue passing the stack forward. Person at the front of each section is to place the papers in the bin for the hour.

22 Classroom Discussions
PLEASE participate. I want to hear what you have to say. Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion If your question is off the topic, write it down and ask later.

23 Moving Around the Room Trash Pencil Sharpening
Trash will be thrown away when your are dismissed from class. Keep it at your desk until you are dismissed. Pick up all paper around your desk before leaving the room Pencil Sharpening Students are to sharpen pencils upon entering the classroom prior to the tardy bell If your lead breaks and you have no other writing utensil, you may sharpen your pencil ONLY during independent or group work time. YOU MAY NOT SHARPEN DURIN G INSTRUCTION OR DISCUSSION

24 RESTROOM & WATER Restroom Water
Students should use the restroom before class. Students will be allotted four (4) restroom passes per semester for use in extreme emergencies. Passes will not be given during the first/last ten minutes of class. Water a. Students should get water before class or bring water bottles with them.
