FINAL PROJECT TARA JACKSON EDU620: MEETING INDIVIDUAL STUDENT NEEDS WITH TECHNOLOGY INSTRUCTOR: DUSTY CLARK MAY 2, 2016

Station 1 Universal Design for Learning

Audience My goal is to grasp the attention of the audience and get them to visit this station. I will do this by including technology and by making it interesting as possible. The main focus of this station will be a lively video on a smart screen which will talk about the importance of UDL and Differentiation.

Information According to Edyburn, D. L. (2013) the goal of universal design for learning is to proactively value diversity such that supports are embedded into instructional materials before a student needs them. This will help facilitate academic performance of all students including students with disabilities. It is important for the audience to know this information. Jimenez, T. C. (2007) tells us that, by using a UDL approach in the classroom, teachers design their instruction to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners rather than make ongoing adjustments for individual students with special needs.

Demonstrate/Interaction In order to involve the audience, I will demonstrate an app that helps hearing impaired students. I will also provide tablets so that can interact with various apps and understand the importance of UDL and technology in school.

Differentiation The incorporation of UDL principles enhances learning by providing differentiated learning opportunities. I will exhibit this by displaying a chart that will show the multiple intelligences and how many are reached through standard education and how many of the various learning styles are reached with the UDL.

Station 2 Technology and UDL for All Learners

Mission and Beliefs Our mission is to use technology in order to reach the diversity of students. We aim to prepare our students for their future career and to ensure that they are able to compete in the global market when they finish school. We believe that the 21 st century skills of learning should be considered when developing educational plans for students. Technology acts as a practice and become proficient in those skills.

Goals Increase access to technology Create diversity in the learning experience Help students become owners of their educational journey’s Promote the 21 st century learning skills

Courses and Programs Introduction to Technology Culinary Arts Baking and Pastry Arts Hair Braiding Specialist Introduction to Dance Introduction to Music Introduction to American Law Game Design PE for the Mind, Body, and Spirit Radio Broadcasting

Station 3 21st-Century Skills Acquisition and Employability

Introduction to Technology This class will reach the need for Information, Media and Technology Skills: By taking this course, students will learn different ways access to an abundance of information, they will become familiar with the rapid changes in technology tools, it will also help students learn how to collaborate and make individual contributions. Partnership for 21st Century Skills. (n.d.) says, to be effective in the 21st century, citizens and workers must be able to create, evaluate, and effectively utilize information, media, and technology.

Tools, Interaction, and New Technology The usage of drawing pads will allow the students to see their drawings come to life. By having the drawing pads available at this station, the audience will be able to get an immediate feel for the magic of technology.

Schools, community programs, courses, and students can benefit from upgraded technology from an approved bond because it will help us provide differentiated learning opportunities for the students.
