TECHNOLOGY AWARENESS & INTEREST COMMUNITY EVENT SPONSORED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY CENTER

STATION 1 Universal Design for Learning

DISCUSS HOW YOU WILL GET THE AUDIENCES’ ATTENTION TO VISIT THIS STATION. WHAT MIGHT THE STATION LOOK LIKE OR INCLUDE TO DRAW PEOPLE TO IT? SPONSORED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY CENTER  I will get the audience’s attention to visit this station by putting a large poster in front of the station that states: Universal Design for Learning Helps All Learners Achieve Success! Visit this Station Today to Learn How!  To Draw Community members to the station I will have free informational brochures that a volunteer will be handing out.  Also, station will be very inviting because it will have free refreshments and will have fun activities to help parents, students, and community members learn facts about UDL and various examples of how classrooms will support all learners equally with UDL.  The station will have 3 teachers that can answer questions about UDL.

DESCRIBE THE MOST ESSENTIAL INFORMATION ATTENDEES SHOULD KNOW ABOUT UDL AND HOW IT SPECIFICALLY PERTAINS TO THE POPULATION OF PRE-KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 12 TH GRADE STUDENTS IN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OR THE ADULT LEARNERS AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER. SPONSORED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY CENTER 1)The primary purpose of UDL is to help diverse students have meaningful access to the curriculum and help all students equally achieve academic success 2)UDL is designed to help students with diverse cultures, intelligences, interests, aptitudes, and learning styles attain academic achievement 3)UDL supports students with learning disabilities, students who are gifted, and students who are English Language Learners 4)UDL will include teaching strategies that teach students so that all students learn by hearing, seeing, applying, and interacting 5) UDL will minimize needs for modifications in the classroom because UDL accommodates and includes all learners since instruction, lessons, and teaching strategies that support all students 6)UDL helps students learn with multiple means of engagement, representation, and action and expression

DISCUSS HOW WOULD YOU DEMONSTRATE UDL IN ACTION. FOR EXAMPLE, WOULD YOU INCLUDE A VIDEO OF IT BEING MODELED, A SAMPLE INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN, OR AN EXAMPLE OF A RESOURCE OR SOURCE OF TECHNOLOGY THAT SUPPORTS UDL? SPONSORED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY CENTER To demonstrate UDL in action I would include a video of UDL being modeled, specifically one that shows the various ways UDL principles can be applied in the classroom

DISCUSS THE IMPACT UDL HAS ON TEACHING AND LEARNING FOR THE SPECIFIC POPULATION OF PK THROUGH 12TH GRADE STUDENTS AT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OR ADULT LEARNERS AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER. IN YOUR DISCUSSION, INCLUDE HOW INCORPORATING UDL PRINCIPLES ENHANCES LEARNING BY PROVIDING DIFFERENTIATED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES. SPONSORED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY CENTER UDL has a significant impact on teaching and learning for the specific population of PK through 12 th grade students at the local district in that teachers that apply UDL design their instruction, teaching strategies, and learning activities so that they address all students in every aspect of learning and instruction, UDL helps teachers address challenges before they even happen this is because UDL principles require teachers to design instruction that universally includes all types of learners in the classroom. Because instruction that is designed around UDL principles includes all students of all aptitudes, learning styles, learning interests UDL is effective at differentiating instruction and so very little modifications are necessary.

DESCRIBE HOW ATTENDEES COULD INTERACT IN THIS STATION. HOW MIGHT THIS INCREASE THEIR INTEREST AND APPRECIATION FOR EDUCATIONAL USE OF TECHNOLOGY? SPONSORED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY CENTER Attendees could interact in this station by interacting with teaching strategies that use technology to apply UDL principles. For example, qualified teachers can show them how some I pad apps, e-readers, and websites such as audiobooks.com are used in the classroom teach reading and literacy and at the same time how UDL is supported by the various forms of technology. Attendees can also interact in this station in a question and answer session with the qualified teachers.

SPONSORED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY CENTER STATION 2 Technology and UDL for All Learners an d UDL for All Learners

MISSION, BELIEF, AND GOALS: CRAFT AN ORIGINAL MISSION AND BELIEF STATEMENT FOR YOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT OR COMMUNITY CENTER AS IT PERTAINS TO TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION AND CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE). CONSTRUCT TWO TO THREE SPECIFIC GOALS FOR THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS OR COURSES OFFERED TO THE RESPECTIVE POPULATION SERVED THAT ALIGN WITH THE MISSION AND BELIEFS. SPONSORED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY CENTER Mission and Belief Statement: Every student will equally benefit from UDL instruction integrated with technology and will equally receive support to achieve academic success regardless of their unique individual differences. Goals: 1.Teachers will attend weekly seminars on best strategies to apply UDL principles and technology to each and every lesson and content area of the curriculum in grades k-12 so that instruction is meaningful to all students of various aptitudes, interests, learning styles, intelligences, and cultures. In addition to integration of technology with each subject area, reading will be integrated with other subjects across the curriculum so that students develop strong reading skills. 2.The community will donate e-readers to the district so that each student of the k-12 district schools has access to an e- reader. 3.Students will develop reading and literacy skills by reading a minimum of one e-book of bookadventures.com or audio with their e-readers per week.

COURSE AND/OR PROGRAM OFFERINGS : CONSTRUCT A LIST OF EIGHT TO TEN COURSES OR PROGRAMS INCLUDING CTE COURSES OFFERED IN EITHER THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OR THE COMMUNITY CENTER TO SERVE AS EXAMPLES TO ATTENDEES OF THIS STATION. THE SCHOOL DISTRICT’S COURSES SHOULD INCLUDE COURSES OR PROGRAMS THAT IMPACT ALL THREE LEVELS OF LEARNERS AND SCHOOL ENVIRONMENTS INCLUDING ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE/JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL, AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. SPONSORED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY CENTER Reading and Literacy Social Studies History Computer Science Website Design Home Economics (cooking, baking, sewing) Languages (French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Sign Language) Mathematics with specializations in Computer Science, Engineering Math or Business Math Science with specializations in Meteorology, Botany, Marine Biology Typing

SPONSORED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY CENTER STATION 3 21st-Century Skills Acquisition and Employability

TECHNOLOGY AND 21ST-CENTURY SKILLS : SHOWCASE ONE SPECIFIC COURSE FROM THE COURSES OFFERED LIST THAT INTEGRATES TECHNOLOGY. DESCRIBE AT LEAST ONE 21ST-CENTURY SKILL FROM EACH OF THE FOUR 21ST-CENTURY OUTCOMES REPRESENTED IN THE PARTNERSHIP FOR 21ST-CENTURY SKILLS FRAMEWORK THAT STUDENTS SHOULD GAIN AS A RESULT OF PARTICIPATING IN THE COURSE. DESCRIBE HOW INFORMATION, MEDIA, AND TECHNOLOGY SKILLS (ICT) LITERACY OUTCOMES ICT LITERACY OUTCOMES ARE ADDRESSED, SPECIFICALLY FOR APPLYING TECHNOLOGY EFFECTIVELY, AND HOW SUCH APPLICATIONS WILL SUPPORT FUTURE EMPLOYABILITY.21ST-CENTURY SKILLSINFORMATION, MEDIA, AND TECHNOLOGY SKILLS (ICT) LITERACY SPONSORED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY CENTER ONE SPECIFIC COURSE FROM THE COURSES OFFERED LIST THAT INTEGRATES TECHNOLOGY IS: MATHEMATICS WITH SPECIALIZATION AREA IN COMPUTER SCIENCE 21 ST CENTURY SKILLS THAT STUDENTS SHOULD GAIN AS A RESULT OF PARTICIPATING IN THE COURSE: 1)COMPUTER SCIENCE IS A UNIVERSAL SKILL WHICH HELPS STUDENTS LEARN GLOBAL AWARENESS 2)COMPUTER SCIENCE HELPS STUDENTS THINK CRITICALLY THROUGH DATA ANALYSIS 3)CAREER SKILLS SINCE MANY 21 ST CENTURY CAREERS REQUIRE COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE

TOOLS: INCLUDE AN ADDITIONAL EXAMPLE OF A TECH/DIGITAL TOOL USED IN ONE OR MORE COURSES. SPONSORED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY CENTER  E-READERS  COMPUTERS  I-PAD APPS  INTERACTIVE TABLES  CALCULATORS

INTERACTION : DESCRIBE HOW ATTENDEES MIGHT INTERACT WITH THE INFORMATION AND TOOL(S) PRESENTED AT THIS STATION. HOW MIGHT THIS INCREASE THEIR INTEREST AND APPRECIATION FOR EDUCATIONAL USE OF TECHNOLOGY? SPONSORED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY CENTER A great way to show the attendees examples of digital tools is to let them interact with some of the tools used in the classroom for instruction that supports technology. Attendees should be shown and encouraged to interact with the different I-pad apps used to support learning or reading and literacy, math, social studies, languages, etc. Also attendees can be shown the e-readers, interactive learning tables, and interactive e-books so that they can develop appreciation for technology and thus support technology for the school district.

NEW TECHNOLOGY: DISCUSS HOW SCHOOL OR COMMUNITY PROGRAMS, COURSES, AND STUDENTS WOULD BENEFIT FROM UPGRADED TECHNOLOGY FROM APPROVED BOND. SPONSORED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY CENTER The schools in the school district will significantly benefit from upgraded new technology from the approved bond because it has been proven that students’ motivation and academic progress has significantly increased ever since technology was integrated in the curriculum. However much of the technology that is being used will soon be outdated. Students in the school district would benefit from upgraded technology because they will learn real world applications of technology that they can transfer to college and the work place, however if they continue to learn with outdated technology the students will not be able to transfer their computer and digital skills to real world applications upon graduation. Therefore the school district is in great need of upgraded technology and as a concerned district educator it is my hope that the community votes in favor of the technology bond. Thank you.
