Community Event Presentation Fanelia Baskin EDU 620: Meeting Individual Student Needs with Technology Julie-Ann Adkins June 12 th, 2019 Empowering Our Community with Technology School Representative

Station 1: Universal Design for Learning Welcome everyone! Today is a new day and I would like to introduce you to how technology can change and enhance our schools and community as a whole. The first stop in our ride into the future is with UDL (Universal Design for Learning). Here you will learn the importance and impact of UDL for teachers and students. There are three main concept to UDL 1.Multiple Means of Representation 2.Multiple means of Expression 3.Multiple Means of Engagement

Station 1: Universal Design for Learning This video is a introduction to UDL What is UDL? According to CAST “Universal design for learning (UDL) is a framework to improve and optimize teaching and learning for all people based on scientific insights into how humans learn.” (CAST)

Station 1: Universal Design for Learning This chart provided by CAST is a great break down of UDL

Station 1: Universal Design for Learning The goal of each of the principles is to help instructors to find better ways to share information in order to meet all the students needs no matter their learning styles. Each principle have their own guidelines that will help teachers in implementing UDL to curriculum and in the classroom. As stated by CAST the guidelines are not here to give teachers a step by step of what to teach in the class but rather a way to get out of the one size fits all mindset. By recognizing that all students learn differently and plan accordingly there wont be no need for student isolation, and students will be better prepare when they leave school for the global workforce

Station 1: Universal Design for Learning Differentiation UDL provides differentiation by given students options. Accommodate students learning styles.

Various format of dispersing information

Many ways for students to show what they have learned

Technology Trials Check out how we use technology in the classroom. These two videos will give you an insight Computers Tablets Smartboards

Station 2: Technology & UDL for All Learners Mission Statement Belief Statement Our goals is to help students in becoming future creative innovators and lifelong learners that are prepare to compete and succeed in the global economic world. Goals: 1.Help students achieve 21 st century skills 2.Support students academic goals by providing necessary resources.

Station 3: 21 st Century Skills Acquisition & Employability Technology and 21 st Century Skills STEM The STEM course as a whole incorporate all of the 21 st - Century skills. These skills will “helps students create conceptual structures for storing, retrieving and using information in new and unanticipated ways.” (Beers, 2019). Collaboration and Communication Students are able to collaboratively create innovative solutions to real world problems and be able to communicate it with their peers.

Station 3: 21 st Century Skills Acquisition & Employability Green Screen https://apps.apple.com/us/app/green-screen-by-do-ink/id730091131 1.It is a great app that lets the teacher create videos to create stories, explain concepts 2.This app makes learning the concept interactive 3.It is a great app for teachers to provide lesson already prepared for a substitute teacher.

Station 3: 21 st Century Skills Acquisition & Employability New Technology Over time technology is only getting better and more complex. At the same time it is making life easier for everyone because everyday activities and labor can be enhance through the use of technology. 1.In the classroom and in the community technology makes collaboration and communication between parents and the school personnel easier 2.Translating tools can help break language barriers across the whole community and schools 3.Teaching computer skills can help everyone form the youngest to the oldest to become technologically savvy and connected to the world 4.It also increase student motivation and engagement in the classroom.
