WELCOME! WELCOME! WELCOME! Hi to you all and feel most welcome to this community event. As an educator, I would like to present to you the new face of our education and teaching following the technological integration into our education systems. You need to put on your seatbelts and get ready for an exclusive educational ride that will awaken us to the new dawn of greater achievements in the near future. Our first stop will be the Universal Design for Learning station whereby we shall critically understand the significance of universal design for learning particularly to both educators and students. Let us get started!

Station 1: Universal Design for Learning In this station, we need to understand the principles of universal design for learning. According to Edyburn (2013), there are three principles of UDL as indicated below. The first principle is the multiple means of presentation. Here both students and teachers need to present the teaching and learning content in different versions so as to offer an opportunity to virtually ALL students to actively present their understanding of the lesson. The second principle is the multiple means of action and expression. At this stage, the educators should employ differentiation in allowing students to freely and skillfully express the knowledge gained. The third principle is the multiple means of Engagement, which often stimulates the students’ motivation and interest for learning (Edyburn, 2013).

Continuation According to Puckett (2013), the Universal Design for Learning removes unintentional barriers that are irrelevant to the set educational goals thus the critical way of embracing new changes in the curriculum. A good and practical example of how UDL works would be well understood from Stephanie Craig’s video on Universal Design for Learning. I would give you this opportunity to watch out this video for further comprehension (CAST, 2010).

Continuation Essentially, Universal Design for Learning enhances and facilitates differentiation through a variety of choices. The below illustration demonstrates how UDL provides for differentiation through choices especially for students.

Station 2: Technology for ALL Learners Mission statement, Belief and Goals The school’s mission is to produce culturally relevant students in the global society especially once they have graduated. Basically, it provides students with a pathway to their career in different fields. The aim is preparation of students to post secondary education and life in general. The school’s belief is to make ALL learners the 21 st century learners by ensuring they get the required knowledge and skills meant to help them blend well with technological advancements thus enabling them to fit into the society (Newman, 2013). The school’s goals are to make students critical thinkers and be able to employ the 21 st century skills. Learners should uphold integrity and respect other towards effective learning. Further, learners should be able to connect what they learned to the real life outside classroom.

Station 3: 21 st century skills acquisition and Employability According to Partnership for 21 st century skills (n.d), provides for the 21 st century student outcomes that include; knowledge, skills, and expertise required by the students to succeed both academically and generally in life. For instance, the social and cross cultural skills, critical thinking and problem solving and media literacy. Essentially, the mastery of the key subjects and the 21 st century themes is of great importance to the learners. Further, the creation of global awareness using the 21 st century skills helps students to critically understand and address the global issues. Additionally, it promotes health and environmental literacy. At this point, the learners should employ all the 21 st century skills in embracing collaboration and critical thinking towards problem solving (Partnership for 21 st century, n.d).

Information and New Technology In today’s society, people have started appreciating the ease and effectiveness of technological integration in teaching and learning. However, in some instants, it might problematic to launch and effective use of technology such as the use of iPhones and iPads among other technological devices. But some of these devices aid teaching and learning in the following ways. It presents information required by the students in various ways thus embracing technology driven students in the society. Further, it enables students to freely interact on various online platforms. Consequently, the students will benefit from the technology bond in the following ways; overcoming diversity barriers, increasing students’ motivation and participation, and preparation of students’ career and their future endeavors (TEDx Talks, 2012).
