College Credit Plus What is College Credit Plus? Earning dual college credit while in high school Allows students (grades 7 – 12) to earn transcripted credit for college courses while in high school. Includes dual enrollment/dual credit programs with college courses offered at your high school, on a college campus, or online. Goals: Challenge students who are academically strong to complete college courses Allows students to explore academic areas and interests while in high school

College Credit Plus Who can participate? All qualifying students, grades 7 – 12 Students may be admitted to a public or participating private university in Ohio Students need to meet the admissions criteria of the participating university which can include GPA, pre-requisite coursework, Placement testing, etc.

College Credit Plus Types of College Classes Classes can be offered: At the high school, taught by a qualified high school instructor or a visiting college professor On a college campus Online College courses cannot be remedial. Courses need to be nonsectarian.

Ohio Dominican’s Project JumpStart College Credit Plus Program You are both a high school student and a Ohio Dominican University college student earning college transcripted credit for the ODU college courses. The courses count toward your high school degree and also count toward a Bachelor’s degree. You will complete the college courses at Bishop Watterson High School with your instructor who is also an ODU adjunct instructor.

College Credit Plus Who Pays Tuition? For private high school students, Ohio Dept. of Education awards limited state funding. For school year, Ohio Dept. of Education plans to award one college course of funding up to 4 credit hours, to each private high school student who applies for state funding by the April 1, 2016 deadline. If there is funding remaining, high school seniors (Class of 2017) may be able to receive another 4 credit hours of state funding—this is not guaranteed. It depends if any funding is remaining.

College Credit Plus Who Pays Tuition? Private high school students who register for additional college courses beyond the one course that may be state funded are charged the ODU reduced tuition for the additional college courses. Example: Registered for ODU Math 240 Calculus I (4 credits) (Receive state funding award letter for 4 credits and no tuition is charged. Must submit copy of Funding Award Letter to ODU). Also registered for ODU SPN 212 Intermediate Spanish (3 college credits). Student will be charged $65.00 per credit hour ($65 x 3 = $195 for the course).

College Credit Plus 2016 Summer College Classes Private high school students can take summer classes while they are still a high school student and use their state funding award letter to cover the cost of one, four credit hour course or they can “self-pay” the course tuition. Students pay for textbooks and any parking fees. ODU needs a copy of the state funding award letter from the student showing the four credit hours of funding. Students should consider their workload, rigor and their abilities. The GPA of high school AND college is impacted by these courses. Students who fail a class will have the grade of “F” on both the high school and university transcripts.
