College Credit Plus Fairfield Local HS Online meeting

What you should know when you finish:
Basic program information Potential risks and benefits of program Potential costs of program Steps/deadlines with high school for entering CCP for academic year Maximum hours per year for participation Steps for applying to the institution of your choice

College Credit Plus Ohio’s College Credit Plus program can help you earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from colleges and/or universities. The purpose of the programs is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students.

Participation If you are a student in grades 7-12 you can apply for CCP admission to a public or participating private college. You may not participate in the CCP program beyond your anticipated high school graduation date. Students accepted under CCP funding are permitted to take courses during summer term. This term will apply to the students next school year.

CCP State Guidelines Once you are admitted to a college for CCP funding, you may take any course in the college’s course catalog that is not a remedial or religious, and that applies toward a degree or professional certificate, in a subject area in which you are college-ready. Before registering for college courses, please see your counselor to find out how many college semester hour credits – up to 30 – you are eligible to take.

CCP State Guidelines CCP does not replace the requirements to earn a high school diploma. This includes earning 18 points or more on the graduation tests. Even if you are enrolled in college courses, you may be required to take end-of-course exams. Please contact Mrs. Mangus for information about specific required exams.

CCP State Guidelines Successful college course grades will satisfy or exceed the graduation requirements and the subject area requirements of the school district. All college course grades will appear on high school grade card and factored into high school GPA, including those earned in 7th and 8th grade.

CCP State Guidelines Students attending a public college will not be charged for tuition, textbooks, or fees. Students attending a private college may be charged based on the particular private college, in accordance with the law. Students are responsible for any transportation or parking costs.

CCP State Guidelines If you fail a course, you will be receive an “F” on your high school and college transcripts. If you do not receive a passing grade or withdraw from a course, the district may seek reimbursement for the tuition paid to the college. The Fairfield HS will withhold grades and credits received for high school courses taken until reimbursement has been made.

Steps for entering the program
Inform your school between February 15 and April 1 of your intent to participate for academic year. CCP information will be posted on your high school website. Postsecondary institutions will have CCP information on their websites.

Steps cont. Examples of information on website will include but not limited to, admission criteria and any partnerships with local high schools. Public and private institutions will have different guidelines. Students must demonstrate college readiness.

Potential Risks College course offerings do not mirror the high school offerings. Scheduling required courses is not guaranteed. Students will have increased responsibility for learning.

Potential Risks Potential for social discomfort as some students may not adjust to the new environment. If a student fails or withdrawals from a college course, they will not earn credit and they may be responsible for the cost of the course and book. Attending high school activities does not excuse you from college courses

Program Advantages An opportunity to take courses not offered at the high school or, in some cases, an opportunity to earn college credit while remaining in your high school. Increased course selection. Earn free college credit, after successful completion of course.

How do I begin? Once you have completed this powerpoint and returned an intent form to the guidance office, begin steps at the institution of your choice . Remember, every college has somewhat different requirements. Inquire with the college of your choice for specific admission requirements.

Southern State Community College CCP Guidelines
Guidelines pertain to all students participating in CCP program whether the student is on a SSCC campus or taking the course at their high school.

SSCC CCP Guidelines Counseling with high school counselors.
Complete the SSCC/CCP Application and submit to the guidance office. In the mail the student will receive a letter instructing how to set up the Accuplacer.

SSCC CCP Guidelines Students are expected to be college-ready as defined by the Uniform Statewide Standards for Remediation Free Status. This is demonstrated by:

SSCC CCP Guidelines English ACT score of 18 or higher or 480 SAT
Mathematics ACT score of 22 or higher or 530 SAT Or, Appropriate threshold scores on SSCC Accuplacer

SSCC CCP Guidelines In all cases, students must meet the necessary pre-requisites required for a course. CCP students wishing to take courses without a pre-requisite can be conditionally approved and must provide evidence of college-readiness prior to the conclusion of the term in which they enter.

SSCC CCP Guidelines First time CCP students taking courses on a SSCC campus, must meet with a CCP advisor at SSCC to register for their first semester college courses. SSCC will assign all CCP students an academic advisor. It is suggested that students meet with their advisor prior to registration for each semester, but not required to do so after the first semester.

SSCC CCP Guidelines All new students attending SSCC are required to attend a New Student Orientation. Orientation information will be sent after the student has registered for his/her college courses.

SSCC CCP Guidelines Students enrolling in the program will be expected and required to perform at the same level as their college classmates. CCP students are subject to the same policies and procedures, academic practices and grading standards as all other SSCC students. Grading standards pertain to students taking college courses in their high school, as well.

Colleges All public colleges and many private colleges offer CCP. Students may attend any Ohio college offering CCP. We currently have students taking classes from SSCC, Chatfield College, and UC.
