College Credit Plus A State Funded Opportunity to Earn College Credit College-ready students Grades 7 – 12 Many college course options Public colleges are free Private colleges may include small cost Ohio’s new College Credit Plus can help students earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from community colleges or universities. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students. Taking a college course from a public college or university College Credit Plus is free. That means no cost for tuition, books or fees. If you choose to attend a private college or university, you may have limited costs.

College Credit Plus Apply and Get Admitted Participate by getting admitted into a college. May have to take a placement test and satisfy other college criteria.

8 College Credit Plus Student Choice You choose the course(s) that fit your pathway. Each must be secular, apply toward a degree or workforce certification and confer college credit. Students can choose any course that applies toward a degree or workforce certification at a public (or participating private) college. In addition to being non-remedial, College Credit Plus courses may not be religious in nature.

9 Graduate with College Credit
College Credit Plus Graduate with College Credit You can earn up to 30 college credit hours per academic year; includes summer term. Your counselor will tell you your specific credit eligibility. No more than 120 college credit hours while in the program.

10 College Credit Plus Summer Requirements CCP will include summer term courses beginning in Rules governing summer enrollment are expected to be in effect mid-February 2016.

11 College Credit Plus Summer Requirements Summer term will apply as the 1st term of the next school year. A college’s summer term may begin in May. There may be multiple sessions within a summer term.

12 College Credit Plus Summer Requirements If you want to participate in summer term, you must submit your letter of intent to participate early enough to apply and gain admission to the college and register for course(s) in the spring.

15 College Credit Plus A semester college course of 3 or more credits counts as a one-year high school class.

16 Under what scenarios can a qualified student use College Credit Plus?

17 College Credit Plus You want to take college courses to satisfy your high school graduation requirements. You completed your high school graduation required classes and you want to begin college work. You want to explore college and take a course in a subject that interests you.

18 Books and Fees Students attending a public college
College Credit Plus Books and Fees Students attending a public college do not pay for either books or fees. Students attending a private college may have a cost that includes books and fees.

20 College Credit Plus If you fail the course or drop it too late, you will have to pay for it. Classes failed or withdrawn with an “F” will receive an “F” on the high school and college transcripts and will be computed into the high school and college GPA. If you do not receive a passing grade, the district may, in some instances, seek reimbursement for the amount of state funds paid to the college on your behalf for that college course. The school district may withhold grades and credits received for high school courses taken until reimbursement has been made.

21 College Credit Plus Weighted Grades College courses must be weighted equally to the greatest weight of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or honors classes, in the same subject area. AP, IB, Honors Class College Course

College Credit Plus Grades are Applied to Graduation Requirements The grade you earn in the college course is applied to your high school graduation required class.

24 What are the potential benefits?
Expands curricular choices Provides opportunities/choices for specific learning in area of interest Allows students to earn college credit while in high school at minimal cost Allows students to experience college-level work while making post-high school plans

25 Does college credit transfer after graduation?
Many entry-level courses earned at an Ohio public college are guaranteed to transfer to any other Ohio public college Credits earned at private colleges will be evaluated by the institution you are seeking to attend

26 How are high school graduation requirements affected?
High school graduation requirements will not be waived as a result of participation in CCP Students will not receive a diploma until after the course is successfully completed and the graduation requirement is met, including state testing requirements

27 Will CCP grades appear on my high school transcript?
Yes. High school credit awarded for courses successfully completed under CCP will satisfy or exceed the graduation requirements of the school district CCP courses will be listed by the course title on the transcript A CCP course will be computed into the GPA using the same scale as Advanced Placement when an Advanced Placement course in that subject is also offered at Solon High School

28 What are the potential risks and consequences?
Increased responsibility for learning Reduced opportunities to participate in high school activities/athletics Possible affect on GPA Increased time and responsibility for travel Increased potential for scheduling conflicts each semester Academic gaps in curriculum of sequential coursework between high school and college

29 How does CCP impact athletic eligibility?
A student athlete must remain eligible in accordance with OHSAA bylaws To be athletically eligible, students must be passing five, one credit courses or the equivalent per grading period Most CCP courses taken during a semester will equal one Carnegie unit, allowing students to earn more than the required five for athletic eligibility

30 What if I fail a class? Classes failed or withdrawn with an “F” will receive an “F” on the high school and college transcripts and will be calculated into the high school and college GPA Students will be responsible to reimburse the district for the amount paid for the failed course The district will hold grades and credits received for high school courses taken until reimbursement has been made

31 What are my academic and social responsibilities?
Follow rules and regulations set by the college/university Follow rules and regulations set by the high school Access to advising from the campus-based support services Access to your school counselor and high school resources

32 What are the next steps? Submit your Intent to Participate forms to SHS Guidance by April 1st. Contact the college for information, application forms, and criteria for acceptance into CCP Follow the procedures of the college/universities to apply to CCP and to enroll in courses Communicate with your SHS counselor about your plans for scheduling Register for classes and provide your SHS counselors with your college schedule

33 College Credit Plus Student Deadline! Jan.19 - April 1 Submit your paperwork to Guidance if you intend to participate next year.
