2. College Credit Plus What is College Credit Plus? Earning dual college credit while in high school Allows college-ready students in grades 7 – 12 to earn transcripted credit for college courses while in high school. Courses can be taken at your high school, on a college campus or online.

College Credit Plus Goals of College Credit Plus Create access for students to be admitted remediation free to a university Challenge students who are motivated and academically strong to complete college course assignments and expectations Allows students to explore academic areas and interests

4. College Credit Plus Who can participate? All qualifying students, grades 7 – 12 Public universities and schools must participate Private universities and schools may participate Students must be admitted to a public or participating private university in Ohio Students need to meet the admissions criteria of the participating university which can include GPA, pre-requisite coursework, and placement testing.

5. College Credit Plus Types of College Classes Classes can be offered: At the high school, taught by a qualified high school instructor or a visiting college professor On a college campus Online College courses cannot be remedial Courses need to be nonsectarian

College Credit Plus Potential Risks College coursework can be more rigorous and take more time to complete Transportation is not provided to college campuses; high school and college campus schedules, Spring breaks, snow days, do not always align College course credits may not always transfer to out-of-state or private colleges (Be sure to check with each university)

7. College Credit Plus Who Pays Tuition? Private high school students intending to take college courses must apply for state funding to cover tuition costs. Ohio Dept. of Education will award 1 funding allocation unit of 3 semester hours to Seniors first, then Juniors, until all grades have received 1 (3 semester) allocation. If money is still available they will go back to Seniors who will then be awarded 2 more allocations until funding runs out. (2016-2017 plan) If a student does not receive full funding for college courses taught at FCA, the student can be charged a reduced tuition fee and can still take the course(s) for college and high school credit or not pay and take course(s) for high school credit only. Any student who qualifies for economic disadvantaged status should see their high school counselor; tuition cannot be charged to these students.

8. College Credit Plus How Do the Credits Work Together? Taking a college course will be dual credited so students receive BOTH high school credit and college credit. 1 high school credit is a 1 Carnegie unit 3, 4, or 5 college semester credits = 1 Carnegie unit 2 college semester credits = 2/3 Carnegie unit 1 college semester credit = 1/3 Carnegie unit

9. College Credit Plus How many credits can a student earn in an Academic Year? An Academic Year is defined as 3 semesters: Summer, Fall and Spring A student can earn up to 30 semester credits per academic year

10. College Credit Plus How many college credits can a student earn in an Academic Year? Formula: (# of high school only units) x 3 = □ 30 - □ = # of college credits student may earn that year

11. College Credit Plus How many college credits can a student earn in an Academic Year? Example: Determine number of Carnegie (HS) credits to be taken at HS ----- 6.00 X 3 = 18 30 - 18 = 12 - maximum amount of college semester credit hours a student may earn during that academic year.

12. College Credit Plus How does CCP impact High School Graduation and Transcripts? High school credit from college coursework will satisfy or exceed graduation and subject area requirements. College classes are part of the student’s permanent college record and will stay with them. Students should consider their workload, rigor and their abilities. The GPA for high school AND college is impacted by these courses.

13. College Credit Plus What if Student Fails a Course? The student will earn an “F” on both the high school and university transcript and that grade will be computed into both GPA’s. The student will have to pay for the course that has been failed or dropped after the withdrawal window.

14. Why ODU? Benefits of taking college courses It can save you time and money by taking the college courses at FCA for college credit. You can experience college while still being part of the community at FCA Allows you to explore college courses of interest while still in high school.

15. Admission Transferring Your College Credits The college course credits will transfer to most public and private universities as long as you earn a final grade of “C-” or higher in the course(s). Courses help fulfill either a general education requirement or a major requirement for either the Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.

Admission OCU Trailblazer Academy FCA Partners with Ohio Christian University FCA qualified staff and OCU professors teach the following courses at FCA each year: Introduction to Sociology General Psychology Western Civilization I: Ancient Age – Medieval Age Special Topic in History: The Holocaust Statistics & Analysis Calculus I Calculus II English Composition I Basics of Oral Communication

17. Admission CCP Process Follow the Checklist to complete the Process which includes : Determine what courses you want to take for the upcoming school year – use transcript, scheduling form and Course Formula sheet to see how many hours you may want to take. Completing the FCA Permission to Participate form for FCA Guidance – helps us keep track of your progress! Complete the Ohio Department of Education “Intent to Participate for Non-Public Students” form by the ODE Deadline – April 1 st.

18. Admission CCP Process Apply to college(s) and once acceptance letter is received by you take to guidance office for help to: Complete the Ohio Dept. of Education Funding Application Form for Non-public students by ODE Deadline in April. This will require working with the guidance department and formula sheet to determine how many hours to request, getting parent signature and mailing or submitting the form to ODE before the deadline.

19. Admission CCP Process Ohio Dept. of Education will send you the Funding Award Letter before the end of the school year. Give a copy of your Ohio Dept. of Education Award of Funding Letter to FCA guidance office at which time you can make scheduling changes, if needed, and complete the college registration form for the courses you plan to take.

20. Admission CCP Process If not enough funding is available the student may wait until next year, take the course for high school credit only or take the course and pay for the course. OCU partner fees are as follows: College classes taught by FCA teachers: $75.00/semester hour College classes taught at FCA by OCU professors: $110.00/semester hour Online and OCU Campus courses: $160.00/semester hour

23. Admission Requirements Minimum 2.0 GPA ACT score of 19 + or SAT or COMPASS equivalent

Course Options Students can take their courses online or on the University Campus (and in select High Schools) Students can take 100-200 level courses with the exception of a few approved 300 level courses Assigned Advisor: Mandatory advisory session (in person/by phone) Pathways to pursue different degree paths.
