MATH SEVEN

What do I need to know?  Where do I sit?  When should I get to class?  Will we have homework?  What materials do I need?  How do I earn my grade?  What do I do if I have finished my math homework?  Do we still have responsibility cards?

Sit anywhere you want…for now  We will be working together a lot  Expectations are high  Everyone contributes  Conversations are math topic centered  Groupings will change often

When am I expected to get to class?  Be in your seat by the time the bell rings  Be prepared to work  Notebook and pencil ready to go

Ring me up!  The last two minutes of every math class can be yours to enjoy,  Here’s How

Work hard for the first 42 minutes

Homework  Yes we have homework  Almost every day (except Wednesday)  Correct your own!  Fix mistakes!  Get full credit!

How can I be sure I remember what you assigned?  Write all assignments in your agenda

Tests and Quizzes  Yes we have these  Often (like weekly)  Mr. Spaulding corrects these  These count big-time

Materials  Notebook devoted solely to math  Pencils (Keep a lot of these on-hand at all times)  Red Pens  Ruler  Calculators

My Grade  Homework counts five points each week  Tests and quizzes count fro 25 to 50 points each week, with a few 100 point tests along the way  I DO NOT give you your grade, you will earn it.

What do I do if I fail a test or quiz?  You can retake the test or quiz when you have provided me with evidence that you have done additional preparation.

EVIDENCE??  Additional preparation such as questions and problems from the book that have not been previously assigned

What if I am absent?  It is your responsibility to see me for any homework you may have missed  It is your responsibility to arrange to make up any test or quiz you may have missed  All missing work will be counted as incomplete-you have the responsibility to complete all work

Grade Reports  You will be getting detailed grade reports at least two times each quarter  The mid-term grade report must be signed by your parent  Incompletes count as zero points, so be sure to make these up as soon as possible

What is your late-work policy?  Get-R-Done!!  For full credit

What does the grade “I” mean?  Incomplete work  If you have earned an “I” at the end of the quarter you have two weeks to turn in any missing work.  If you do this I will correct the work and you will have earned the higher grade.  If you do not do this the grade becomes an “F”. ( I hate to even type that letter)

What do I do If I have finished my math work for the day?  You have two choices:  Do other homework  Read a book  Please bring a book to class every day

Can I just sit and do nothing?  You have two choices:  Do other homework  Read a book  Please bring a book to class every day

Can I draw?  You have two choices:  Do other homework  Read a book  Please bring a book to class every day

Can I talk to a friend?  You have two choices:  Do other homework  Read a book  Please bring a book to class every day

What do I do if I do not understand an assignment?  Please ASK questions  In class when you are working on the assignment  During Prime Time when you are working on the assignment  After school (when I am not coaching I will be in my room until 3:50 most afternoons)  Before school (When I am not on hall duty I am in my room by 7:30 most mornings)

Responsibility Cards  Yes we have them  They are used in the following cases:  Tardiness (Please be in your seat at the bell)  Excessive chatter  Late assignments  As collateral for calculator borrowing  ( No punch given-place card with your name in the calculator caddie slot that corresponds to the calculator you borrowed. At the end of class exchange calculator for your card)
