Welcome to Kindergarten Skyview Comets!

School Times Please be sure that your child arrives on time to school each day “Soft Start”-kids are let in through their classroom doors at 7:35 (AM class only) and the final tardy bell rings at 7:45 7:45-10:40 (AM) 11:35-2:30 (PM) *All PM students must be to school at 11:35 Early Release Day is Wednesdays: 7:45-10:00(AM) 11:00-1:15 (PM) Regular attendance is very important and we strive for a 95% or higher attendance rate Please be aware that if you pick up your child early, it is considered a partial absence for the day

Curriculum Kindergarten has changed a lot over the years, it isn’t the same as when we went. Our learning is very rigorous! Some curriculum highlights include: letters and their sounds, rhyming, reading books independently (level 4 DRA), story elements, writing personal narratives, research and informational writing, opinion writing, wind & weather, animal comparisons, force & motion, needs & wants, making friends, community rules, social skills, rules, maps & globes, counting forward & back, patterning, graphing, sorting objects 2 ways, one to one correspondence, + & -, all based on the Colorado State Standards.. and MUCH, MUCH MORE 

Behavior/Skills Classroom behavior and work policy is based on positive reinforcement (PBS, Comets, Comet Pride, etc.) Misbehavior and missing work will have consequences such as missing fun events to get caught up. If this becomes a constant occurrence, then parents will be contacted to meet and discuss the issue so that we can get your student back on track. We spend much of the day moving and learning, so it is vital that your child comes into kindergarten with the following skills in place so that we can maximize learning time: - focusing for an extended amount of time (10 min.) - follow 2 step oral directions - turn taking; waiting for his/her turn - not shouting out Other important life skills to practice before kindergarten include: - zipping and buttoning coats/pants - tying shoes - cleaning up work areas - bathroom etiquette (washing hands, flushing, etc.)

Homework/Materials There will be homework every night and we will keep an on-going record, so please remember that homework is not optional. This will help students build good habits and a sense of responsibility for future grades. Set up a homework area at home and be sure to stick to a consistent routine Kindergarten is an important year for students to learn many important skills and practice them through homework. We appreciate your help in reinforcing and helping your child practice these skills, after the school day has ended. Be sure that your child is prepared with all needed materials before coming to school for the day (homework folders, backpacks, library books, forms, etc.)

Communication Classroom newsletters will be sent home monthly and school newsletters will be available on the school website on a monthly basis Important notes/reminders will be sent home daily The most effective way to reach us is via e mail Visit our website at www.skyview.adams12.org for more information
