3. Mrs. Sarah’s Mission n The mission of Mrs. Sarah’s second grade is for students to be in a safe environment that is conducive to learning and where creativity and fun are part of every aspect of the learning process.

5. Your Child’s Planner n Your child’s planner is an important communication tool between parent and teacher. Please use your child’s planner to communicate with me of dismissal changes, if your child will be leaving early, or if your child will be absent a day. n This is also a means of communicating behavior problems and success in the classrooms. n Each night, your child will write down, any homework for the week, and any other important things parents need to know (PTO meetings, etc.). All of these will also be listed on my Teacher-Web site.

6. Absentees Absentees n It is very important for your child to be in school. Therefore, we ask that when your child is absent to please send a doctor’s excuse or a parent note when your child returns to school. A parent has 5 parent notes to use when a child misses without seeing a doctor for a child to be excused. After those absences and without a doctor’s note a child will be unexcused. n Please notify school before 8:00 if your child will not be at school that day or will be late. n If the school has not been notified of your child’s absence, someone from the school will call your home if your child is on the absentee list.

7. Tardiness Tardiness n If your child arrives in the classroom after the 7:50 bell, he/she will be considered tardy. n If a child is tardy 3 times, it will count as an unexcused absence. n THIS IS A NEW CHANGE!

8. Inclement Weather Inclement Weather n The all-call will notify you if school will dismiss early due to weather. n Please have your contact numbers up- to-date. n If your number changes, please let me know so I can notify the office

9. Birthday Parties n Birthday parties begin at 2:30. n Please let me know a day in advance so that I can make sure we are ready.

10. Lunch n Please include lunch money in an envelope with your child’s name and teacher’s name on it. n Lunch is 12:15-12:40

11. I n If your child would like to get ice cream at recess, please send $0.50 daily Students will be responsible to keep up with their money. They may bring change purses/wallets. Ice Cream Money

12. Morning Snack We do not eat until 12:15. Your children get very hungry. We will be having a morning snack during our reading. If you would like, please send them a Nutritional Snack. Please make sure it’s Nutritional and won’t get messy. You may also send water for them to keep at their desk. If you would like to donate for those that don’t bring a snack that would be greatly appreciated Please no PEANUTS!!!

13. Homework n Homework assignments will be written in your child’s planner on each night and on my Teacher-Web site. n We will only have homework on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. n Graded papers will be sent home in a folder every Thursday. If you have a question about one of your child’s grades, please ask. Papers with a Check mark just means it was looked over, papers with a Grade will be recorded in the grade book. **Homework is seen as a way of reviewing skills needed to perform, not as graded work. 14. Discipline/Rewards n Students are expected to follow not only the classroom rules but also the school rules. These rules were gone over on the first day and reminded of daily. n If a student misbehaves in/out class, n consequences will be n 1 st Verbal Warning n 2 nd Miss 10 Minutes of Recess n 3 rd Miss 20 Minutes of Recess n 4 th Miss 30 Minutes of Recess n **A punch on their card will be given each day for Good Behavior. n Students who earn 10 punches they get a toy, candy, or a reward card. We NEED Treasures!

16. Make-Up Work n If a student is absent, he/she will have one day for every day missed to complete work. n Most times I get the students caught up on the work they missed in class. n If you know your child will miss a few days, I have make-up work sheet that I can have ready at 2:30 on the first day they miss.

17. Accelerated Reader n Students are encouraged to read and to take tests on the books they read. n Our reading story each week is a test that students are expected to test on along with leveled readers. Students have a folder in which they can keep up with their scores on these tests. n If you would like to be updated on your child’s AR progress, please send a note in the planner and I will print out your child’s report.

18. Change of Phone or Address n If your phone numbers or addresses change during the year, please contact the office or me as soon as possible so we can make changes on all lists.

How and When to Contact Me n The best communication is through your child’s planner. n You are always welcome to call me at school and I will call you back as soon as possible. n My break is not until 2:00 n If you need to reach me after school hours, please email me. It goes directly to my phone and it will notify me.

21. Room Parent n I need someone to Volunteer to be a Room Parent. n This would help in organizing our Class Parties. n Please let me know after the mtg.

22. PTO Membership n PTO membership $5.00 fee. n PTO has Great plans for this year. n Box Tops are being collected, forms are on my side table.

23. Please Help! Tying shoes is no longer a standard for teachers to teach. Therefore, there are many students that do not know how to tie shoes. Please work with your child on this at home.

24. Pictures Pictures n I love taking pictures! n At the end of the year there will be pictures to make a slideshow showing what all we have been involved in throughout the year in second grade. n Please let me know if you don’t won’t me taking your child’s picture
