Classroom Procedures For Miss Wist’s Room

Opening Exercises National Anthem – face the flag, stand up straight (no leaning against desk/wall/counter) (Respect). Lords Prayer – bow your head and respect the wishes of others even if you don’t practice. Remain quiet until finished.

Walking in the Halls Road rules: WALK on the right side of the hallway. Walk single file No running, keep hands to yourself. Avoid creating giant discussion groups that block the flow of traffic.

Entering the Room Please enter quietly and on time Have a seat Take out your materials (sharpen pencil if needed) Begin Bell Work assignment Review Lesson Agenda

When You Are Late Get late slip from office Enter quietly Place your late slip or signed agenda on my desk Have a seat and take out materials

Moving Around The Room Raise hand to ask to move around the room Make good decisions, do not interrupt discussion and lecture time Dispose of recycling and garbage at the end of class

bellwork procedure Open your bellwork duotang Name, Class, Date on the paper Answer the bell work questions as full statements Organize your bell work so it is in chronological order (by date)

Classroom Discussions PLEASE participate Put your hand up if you have a comment. I want to hear what you have to say. Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion. If your question is off the topic, write it down and ask later.

Listening to/ responding to questions Sit in the learning position in your desk. Eyes open and attention focused on the teacher. Avoid distracting behaviors (snoring, tapping, etc). Raise your hand to respond to questions.

Working in groups cooperatively – Support Groups Move quietly to your group area Turn your desk/chair to face group members Each member has a specific role Participate in the group (speak/write) Listen to other people’s ideas Cooperate by letting other’s speak Show eye contact so other’s know you are listening to them.

Movement of students and papers When collecting papers, I will ask all students to label their work with Name, Class and Date and pass the papers FORWARD. The first person in the row will neatly organize the papers and hand them to me. When marking assignments, students will pass their papers behind them. The last person in the row will bring theirs to the front of the row.

WHEN YOU NEED HELP You may, Raise your hand calmly and quietly Please stay seated and I will do 1 of 2 things: 1. Quietly motion you to come over to me OR 2. I will come to you **We will not disturb the entire class during work time!!**

Correct Agenda Usage Your agenda is just like a text book. Have it with you everyday. When you are assigned work, write it down in the appropriate spot and write down the due date. Check homework on school website www.parksideschool.ca to make sure everything is completed.

Quieting a class When I need you to be quiet, I will clap a rhythm, flick the lights off/and on, call for attention (ex. Grade ___, eyes up here, ladies and gentlemen). You will need to be quiet immediately, without talking or being asked verbally. If an announcement comes on the speaker or the phone rings, please immediately stop talking.

Washroom Breaks Raise your hand to ask permission You need your agenda open so the time that you leave can be written and the teacher can sign it. If you lose your agenda, you must buy another one at the office as soon as possible. No agenda, no washroom break

When You finish Your Work Work on unfinished assignments Work on weekly assignment Review/study your notes Work on math definitions Read ahead in your textbook Read a novel

After an absence Check homework missed on school website www.parksideschool.ca Copy/print the homework If you don’t have computer access come to me before school starts the next day. Go and see each teacher, they will not come chasing after you.

Missing A Test You need to arrange a date with me. I will not track you down. If you don’t see me about a missed test, I will give you “0”.

Class Dismissal The Teacher dismisses you, not the bell. Do not start packing up prior to the bell. Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you. Make sure the room is clean and there is not garbage on the floor.

Not Following Rules will result in: 1st - Warning (verbal, the teacher eye, walk near your desk, touch your desk) 2nd - Name on Board 3rd - Check mark and 1 hour after school and parents contacted. 5th - Removed from classroom (office) ***Any student who uses profanity, fights, damages school property (this includes the property of the teacher and other students), or is disrespectful (as defined by the teacher, ex. Rolling your eyes) will be sent to the office IMMEDIATELY.***

Going To Gym / Assemblies Leave room single file and quiet down hallway to gym. Sit up straight in a line across gym with your class. Watch for signal to be quiet. Respect those that are talking. When dismissed, walk quietly back to class.

SPECIAL PROCEDURES These will be shared when needed: Library/Computer Room Progress Reports Substitute Teacher Fire Drill Guests
