Greenhouse Customer Service

Help customers select plants Carry plant outs to purchasing area Answer customer questions Be POLITE at all times! If you have a problem with a customer direct them to Mr. Yorke or one of the other adults Greenhouse Customer Service Place empty trays by front door Hand plants lists to customers as they enter

What to do during slow times? Move plants forward on benches, re-space Move baskets forward, be sure to place drip lines into the middle of each basket Water dry plants Groom plants Pick up trash Bring in more trays from the GOB

To be a good sales person you must: 1. Greet the customer when they arrive – say hello, ask them if you can help them find a certain kind of plant. (don’t hover around them however, if they don’t want your help, move on) Example: Salesperson: Hi, can I help you find a certain plant? Customer: Yes, I’m looking for peppers. (take them to the peppers) or Customer: No thanks, I’m just looking. Salesperson: Great, let me know if you need any help.

2. Be concerned about their needs – listen to them, try to understand their needs or questions, show that you really CARE! 3. Help them with their plant selection – lead them to plant they want, don’t just point, help them get baskets down, etc. 4. Have a good ATTITUDE! – be helpful and positive, smile, the most important thing a customer will notice about you is your attitude.

Dealing with an unhappy customer 1. Be polite. 2. Listen to their concerns. 3. If you cannot resolve the problem, tell the customer they will need to talk to one of the teachers.

Your primary goal as a salesperson is serve the customer. By serving the customer correctly, we sell MORE PLANTS! There is nothing wrong with trying to sell more plants to a customer – as long as you do it correctly. Don’t try to push plants on people – use a more skilled sales approach.

If a customer is going to purchase an hanging basket, point out another nice one and say, “this one would look great along with that one.” Examples: If a customer is going to purchase a few 4” plants you could say, “those would really look good in groups of 5 in your flower bed.” Explain that plants look best in the garden in odd numbered groups for a real color impact.

Receipt Writer Count each kind of plant a customer has selected Record the number of each kind of plant on the receipt You do not need to add up any totals on the receipts Send the customer to a cashier Sign your name Tear out the white and yellow receipts and hand them to the customer. The pink receipt stays in the receipt book. Write VOID on any receipts that are canceled Leave them in your receipt book Mrs. Weeks is in charge of the receipt writers

Make sure you tally each customer’s plants correctly. You should study the different plant varieties so that you can quickly identify each of them.

$ Do not transfer money from one cash box to the other If you need change you need to buy it with money from your cash box.

Closing Out A Cash Box When the sale begins to slow down Mr. Yorke will supervise cashiers as they close out their cash boxes. Each cashier will need to count the cash box and record the amount on a sale tally sheet. A second student will recount the cash box to verify the amount. We will do this in Mr. Yorke’s classroom.

Receipt Checker Receipt checkers will check each customers receipt when they leave the sale area. There will be two exit gates, one on each side of the sale area. Each customer’s receipt should be stamped PAID. If they have not paid ask them to go to a cashier to pay for their plants.

Car Loader Help customers load plants Remember to get the plant trays back! Put them in the box by the gate.

Inform customers that the carts are for transporting plants to their cars after they have paid. Do not allow them to take carts into the greenhouses. Do not allow them to take carts through the gate.

Always be polite and courteous to the customers. During slow times you can move plants to the front of the tables, move baskets forward in the greenhouses, groom plants, water dry plants, get boxes, pick up garbage, and help where needed.
