Branding yourself for the career you want Cameron Adrain Senior Recruitment Consultant Frasia Wright Associates

What are soft skills? Skills fall into two different categories: 1. Hard Skills-professional knowledge, tools or techniques 2. Soft Skills-broad, overlapping mix of management skills Soft skills are: Listening Self management Appearance and likeability Effective communication Proactive approach Enthusiasm Confidence Relationship building Leadership Intuition Empathy

Using your soft skills Listening - Stop talking and start listening! - The way we listen and respond influences how others respond to us. Self management - Manage your meetings and master your time keeping. - Always forward plan. Appearance and likeability - Books are judged by their covers! - First impressions do count. Effective communication - Get smart about asking stupid questions! - Exploit opportunities to learn and gain experience. Proactive approach - Show willingness and enthusiasm to work. - But...don’t over-do it!

Getting the job you want! When it comes to job offers... Soft Skills Stand Out!

The importance of personal branding Everything you do, or don’t do, influences a person’s impression of you! Personal branding is how we market ourselves. Key things to remember when creating your own brand: - Define yourself – what are your skills, experiences and values? - Determine your audience – who are you trying to reach? - Establish your message – what do you want to convey? - What do you want others to remember about you?

Online branding Googling: the act of learning about something or someone by performing a web search. FACT: 23% of people search for the names of business associates/colleagues before meeting them. FACT: 77% of recruiters will google candidates...with 35% of recruiters eliminating candidates based on what they find!!!

Enhancing your online brand DO... 1.Create a personal website 2.Join Facebook 3.Create a LinkedIn profile 4.Consider Twitter 5.Complete your profiles 6.Take a stand 7.Lead with your strengths 8.Be selective of photos

Enhancing your online brand DON’T... 1.Write/Post before thinking 2.Join dubious groups or fan pages 3.Be inconsistent 4.Build an online identity that can haunt you!!!

Try... Googling yourself!
