I use my talents and strengths.” Recognition, Quality of People “I like the people I work with and for, I feel appreciated at work.” Impact, significance, meaning “I support a cause and work for something I believe in.”

6 Discuss with a colleague: 1. What makes a person authentic? (describe a person that is authentic) 2. How do you know a person is authentic?

7  What really matters is what other people believe and perceive what you can do for them.

8 We judge ourselves on our intentions. We judge others on their behaviors. I think I am…  driven, determined and goal-oriented  Smart, intelligent and confident  Humorous, fun Others see me …  Impatient, stubborn and aggressive  Arrogant, “know-it-all”  Sarcastic, cynical

9 Build Brand Value in Three Areas: A. Focus on your strengths B. Enhance your visibility and exposure C. Become an expert in your field

10 A. Focus on your strengths 1. Look at your personal assets beyond your credentials: Knowledge, personality traits, interests, enthusiasm, etc. 2. Write down 3 core strengths: Describe a situation when you exhibited the strength & create a story 3. Take a personal assessment to learn more about yourself (e.g. DISC, MBTI, Hogan) 4. Get feedback: ask 10 people “what strengths do you see in me?” 5. Teach others what you are good at

11 B. Enhance your visibility and exposure 6. Network, network, network (become interested in others) 7. Join professional associations (CFA, Alumni) and get actively involved 8. Volunteer for organizations to demonstrate your strengths and expertise 9. Write a powerful 1-page bio, describing your accomplishments 10. Use Social Media tools to stay connected (LinkedIN)

13 1. Be open-minded. Networking is a dynamic process. 2. Approach others with confidence. 3. Ask relevant, substantive questions. 4. Become genuinely interested in other people; Listen and learn. 5. Give without expectations. Show appreciation. 6. Practice the skills

14 C. Become an expert in your field 11. Learn about topics you are excited and passionate about (read, attend seminar, learn from other experts) 12. Write about your expertise 13. Speak about your expertise; learn to present with impact and assertiveness 14. Get a mentor or coach 15. Establish a mastermind or learning group
