Welcome Students to 7 Challenger!

A Day in the Life of a 7 Challenger Student

For the First Day of School School Supplies –Assignment Notebooks available on Day 1 for $5 –Every student must maintain an assignment book throughout the year, your own or purchased WMS –Silent Reading book must be with you at all times Teacher directed supplies –See the 7 Challenger Supply List7 Challenger Supply List –Other classes will provide supply lists the first week of school

On the First Day of School Tuesday, August 30 –Follow signs for grade 7 reporting location before 7:10 a.m. –Wait to be dismissed from reporting location, then report to HR (mailed home over the summer).

On the First Day of School Locks & Lockers –Each student receives a locker for their use. –Lockers are not to be shared with another student. –Student is responsible for all materials within their assigned locker. –Locker is property of the school. –Your locker must be secured with your school issued lock. –For locker problems, see your HR teacher.

On the First Day of School Student Handbook –Receive notice in HR to access on district website. –Contains student Code of Conduct (rules and dress code). –Student/Parents are responsible for knowing information contained in handbook. –Student/Parents sign that they have read school handbook.

On the First Day of School Opening Day Notices –Emergency Cards, Internet Privacy Policy, Photo Release Form, etc. –Forms due to HR teacher within 3 school days (Tuesday, Sept. 6) Student Schedules –For schedule problems, listen for instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions… When can I go to my locker? –Before HR (7:10-7:20) –During scheduled locker breaks (2 of them: between per. 2-3 & before lunch) *For students who have a period 7 class on floors 1 or 2 only, may go to their locker before period 7 and get their items to leave at the end of the day. 3 times!

Frequently Asked Questions… Will there be homework on the weekends? –Yes! Different classes at different times, but yes be prepared for weekend homework. –We work on the weekends and so won’t you. Will we have projects? –Yes! Different classes at different times, but yes be prepared for projects.

Frequently Asked Questions… Will there be more than one quiz or test on one day? –Yes! You are carrying 7-9 classes in 2 days (Blue/White) and there are only 5 school days per week. That can and will happen often. –We generally give well over a week’s notice per quiz/test. You need to use time management to prepare. Don’t cram the night before! You won’t win!

Frequently Asked Questions… Are students allowed to carry backpacks or large bags during the day? –No, only small purses are allowed. What is a “Loss of Class Time Log”? –An individual student pass to track missed class time. You must have one to leave the room for any reason.

Frequently Asked Questions… What is the student Dress Code? –It can be found in the Student Handbook. When is a student considered late for school and needs a tardy pass? –If they are not in HR at 7:20. –If you are talking with your friends in the hall and enter HR after 7:20, you will need to get a tardy pass.

Frequently Asked Questions… What is the cell phone policy? –It must be off and in your locker from the time you arrive on campus until you leave school grounds. –If it is seen or heard, it will be taken. What if my parents need to reach me during the day? –They can call the School Office and a message will be delivered to you.

Frequently Asked Questions… If a student is absent, what should you do? –Parents call the School Office –Students bring an absent note to HR teacher upon return –Students see each classroom for their missed work. If a student is absent, how do you make up a test? –See your teacher to schedule a make-up time

Frequently Asked Questions… What if a student needs extra help? –Schedule with your individual teacher What if a student needs to stay after school, are there late buses available? –No, students need to picked up by a parent or sign out as a walker.

Frequently Asked Questions… Do you offer extra credit? –Don’t count on it! –Sometimes (Not usually at the end of the term. You can’t improve your grade in 1 week after slacking/doing poorly for much of a term.) To be successful in 7 th grade: Do the work we assign when we assign it!

Frequently Asked Questions… Are computers available for a student to use to type a paper, print something or access the Internet? –School Library After school –Town Library

Frequently Asked Questions… What if I forget something in my locker? –No, you cannot go to your locker. –It is your responsibility as a 7 th grader to remember what you need for class and bring it with you. –At the teacher’s discretion, he/she may allow you to go to your locker.

Frequently Asked Questions… Can I use the telephone to call home when I forget something? –Generally NO! It is your responsibility as a 7 th grader to remember what you need for school and bring it with you. –At the teacher’s discretion, he/she may allow you to call home.

Frequently Asked Questions… What if I plagiarize something on an assignment or copy someone’s work? –Plagiarizing is illegal and unacceptable under any circumstances! This includes a copy/paste misstep! –You will take a 0% on the assignment (regardless of the type of assignment including extra credit), a phone call or note home and possibly after school consequences. –The same goes for copying homework!
