Presentation on theme: "English 10 Mrs. Robyn Duley Open House 2011. Rules & Expectations Students will arrive ON TIME to class. Three “free” tardies are permitted. Beyond that,"— Presentation transcript:
Rules & Expectations Students will arrive ON TIME to class. Three “free” tardies are permitted. Beyond that, students will earn a detention for each subsequent tardy. – On Time means in their seat with materials out when the bell rings. Due to being located outside of the building, students should only leave the classroom if it’s an emergency. Students will ONLY be permitted to leave the classroom during the first 5 or last 5 minutes of class, or if we are working silently. Each student will be given three “Hall passes” per quarter; once they have used 3 they will not be permitted to leave the room. iPods and cell phones will be confiscated if they are out during class for any reason. No Exceptions!!
Rules & Expectations continued Students may bring only bottled water to drink in class. Arrive prepared for class each day. This includes supplies and homework. Students are expected to use my teacher webpage to stay updated on all work, especially when absent. I make every effort to update this page daily with homework and needed handouts. Be respectful of everyone and everything!
Consequences Verbal Warning Staying after class to talk with teacher Phone call or email to parents Detention Office Referral **Any of these consequences can be combined and/or given in any order.
Grading I use a total points grading system. – Student’s grades are based on the total points they earned divided by the total points possible per quarter. Homework assignments can be turned in 1 day late for ½ credit Major assignments (essays or projects) can be turned in up to 3 days late, but will lose a letter grade per day it is late.
Absent Work When a student is absent, it is their responsibility to get any missed assignments from me. I keep an assignment book that details what we did in class that day as well as the homework. Students have the number of days absent plus one to make up the work. If the assignment was given prior to the absence, it is due the day the student returns. If a student comes to school late or has an early dismissal the day a major assignment is due and miss my class, they must bring the assignment to me before the end of the day.
Communication I encourage students to talk to me privately if they are having any issues outside of school that would be beneficial for me to know about. If students see a discrepancy in their grades on home access, I ask for them to speak to me before or after class. Students can email me questions on homework or projects up to 9:30pm and I will try and respond that day.
