2 4/24/20152 Overview Provide a handbook for parents to use during the school year Inform parents so they can discuss school expectations with child Understand the Freshman Center and its goal of a smooth transition from middle to high school Offer opportunity to ask questions

3 4/24/20153 Academics Class schedule –alternating block schedule 8 classes total/odd and even days Full year classes earning 1 credit Grades -Pinnacle information will be provided at the end of orientation - 3-week updates from individual teachers -12 and 36 week progress report cards mailed

4 4/24/20154 Questions and Information Concerns about classes/grades -contact teacher using e-mail or voicemail Credits or program of study questions -contact counselor Difficulty with class -tutoring sessions before/after school with individual teacher (make contact) -tutoring program: details - counselor

6 4/24/20156 Attendance Important characteristics of successful students -Research is clear that student attendance is an important factor in overall student achievement Absent from school? -Attendance taken at beginning of day and by period -Message home in evening indicating absence -Send note with student next class day w/ explanation – all teachers review and sign

8 4/24/20158 Attendance Tardy to school? -Provide note or doctor/dental appointment verification -Check-in through attendance office with note Early dismissal? -Bring parent note to attendance office before school or first period teacher -Check-out through attendance office

9 4/24/20159 Student Medical Clinic Open 8:30 – 3:30 pm each day Located in first floor of Freshman Center Nurse will contact parent as necessary -emergency form – correct contact -numbers for home and work important for possible emergency contact -no books or lockers assigned until form is returned * Please communicate with our nurse about any medical conditions that may impact your student at school*

10 4/24/201510 Prescription Medicine Must be dispensed through clinic Complete permission form and bring medicine to clinic in original container with Prescription information, doctor name Over-the-counter medicine -May be brought to school in original container but may not be distributed to others

11 4/24/201511 Transportation Bus routes are available through the school district website or posted on campus during the first weeks of school Driving student to school? -Arrive early -Drop-off and pick up at flagpole near PAC ONLY! -Freshman center entrance closed due to Bus traffic Bus notes to ride home with friend -Bring parent note to freshman center office by 8:45am on the day of bus change/verification by phone

12 4/24/201512 Behavior Expectations Dress Code – Girls: -pants/shorts/dress reach top of knee -tops must cover area from neck to shoulder; no low cut; no waist visible -undergarments should not be visible Dress Code – Boys -shorts/pants reach top of knee -shirts must have sleeves -undergarments should not be visible WHEN IN DOUBT, DON’T WEAR IT.

19 4/24/201519 Other Student Expectations Student ID card On person at all times. Student Agenda -Hall pass/agenda/student rules and procedures given to students on first day of school Campus Hours -Campus hours are 7:45-3:45. No hanging around - stay for activities or go home. Once activities are over, students must either go home or wait at flagpole near the PAC. No waiting for rides at the Freshman Center.
