1 Welcome to Parent Night
Fourth Grade Ms. Gidcumb’s Class

2 Conduct/Graded Papers
Behavior Reports will be sent home each Tuesday. Please sign and send back on Wednesday. Consequences for poor choices- Warning, Loss of Recess Time, Teacher Conference, Desk Isolation, Isolated Lunch, Behavior Reflection, Contact Parent, Paddling, School visit with Parent, Visit to the Principal. Graded Papers will be sent home from each subject on Tuesday. Please sign and return these Wednesday. Fun Friday Once every 9 weeks No more than 15 marks in the behavior log during the nine weeks Cannot lose disrespect points, no paddling, iss, or office referrals. Cannot miss more than 3 homework assignments Discovery Kids Once per nine weeks Based on exemplary behavior, good work ethic, positive attitude, and respectful to adults and students Homework Check planners for homework assignments and tests Parties Class parties will be held in homeroom

3 Absences/Tardies/Drop off/Pick up
Students are late after 7:55. You will have to escort your child into the building if he/she is tardy to sign him in. I encourage students to be here by 7:45 to get ready for the day. Students cannot be dropped off before 7:05 5 Tardies= ISS during Specials Breakfast will not be served after 7:50 Call the day of and send a note the day after your child is absent. When entering at the front door, please press the door bell located to the right of the front door to alert the secretary of your arrival. She will then unlock the door for you to enter the building. Remember this is for your child’s safety. No one may be dropped off at the front doors prior to 7:55. No one may be picked up through the front door at dismissal. Transportation Changes Send a note the day of a transportation change. This is so important and for your child’s safety!!!!! If an emergency, call the school before 2:00. School Cancellations/Early Dismissal School messenger will call.

4 Eating with your Child We encourage you to visit our courtyard!! A great way to do this is by enjoying lunch with your child or grandchild. You will need to schedule a time with the office in advance to come eat in the courtyard. You may only eat in the cafeteria with your child on his/her birthday. Dress Code Make sure your child is in proper dress code each day. This includes coming to school with shirt tucked in and belt on. Refer to handbook for specific dress code rules. Specials Go with homeroom to special classes. Computer, PE, Library, Computer, PE, Music

5 Get Involved Check school website for up-to-date information: Check your child’s planner every day. Homework and assignment due dates will be listed here. Check your child’s purple folder every day. School notes, permission slips, etc. will be here. These may or may not need to be returned. Listen to your child read. Practice multiplication facts with your child. Help them study for quizzes/tests. 6 What to Expect in English and Language Arts Class
Children read and write each day independently and in group settings (both large and small). Students are expected to work quietly during independent and small group instruction. ELA classrooms incorporate many reading strategies in order to meet the varying needs of children: Whole Group Instruction Independent Reading: Accelerated Reading Small Group Instruction Writing Journal Vocabulary Students will be expected to complete the assigned weekly reading assignment. Students will also be expected to read and record his/her reading in a 4th grade reading log 4 nights during the week. Parents, please sign by Tuesday of the following week. This can include the books above and/or a library book. Students will be expected to study for a Vocabulary Quiz every other Friday..

7 What to Expect in Social Studies Class
A Notebook will be used for note taking. This will contain information that students will use to study for quizzes and tests. We will incorporate writing. Students will write paragraphs to demonstrate their knowledge of the subject. Please check the social studies notebook and planner regularly. This should always be in their backpack. Class Dojo Please sign up!!! Great communication tool!!!! You can check for classroom updates at home. I will often post copies of my notes, test dates, etc. Notes went home tonight with directions on how to sign up!!.
