2019: New Challenges Reformed GCSEs in all subjects: Increased content Less controlled assessment work More examinations 9-1 grading system embedding Grade 5 now regarded as the ‘strong pass’.

It’s not just about… The 5 or C Grade… Students have a range of targets from grade 3 / Pass up to grade 9 / Distinction* English and Maths…. These are key qualifications for progress to further study and apprenticeships. It is important for students that they achieve a range of qualifications. All other subjects are worth 6 GCSEs.

Intervention & Support Specialist English, maths and science forms in Year 11 After school intervention every week for core subjects: Monday: Science Tuesday: English Wednesday: Maths Thursday: French Intervention weeks in May for targeted subjects and students. Timetabled intervention lessons Walking talking mock examinations, which are used to develop exam technique. At exam time, scheduled revision sessions in the school day for each subject prior to exam. Year 11 mocks exams last week before Christmas.

What Can You Do? Provide an appropriate study space Talk to your daughter: agree the balance between work and social life and stick to the agreement Take a keen interest; question them on what they have been learning Talk to them about the issues they face, support them to find a sensible solutions Encourage them at all times Make sure they eat and drink healthily Know the dates of all key school events and exams Stay in contact with school
