Welcome parents/guardians Year 11 Information evening September 2018 ‘..a parent’s active and informed involvement in their child’s education is the single most important factor at GCSE’ Ofsted

The purpose of this evening… To help you support your child’s results. To ensure you are well informed of key dates To give you information about study skills To ensure that you understand the importance of attendance To find out more information on Post 16 options

3 Context Realistically courses will end at Easter
We are 8 months before the actual examination period begins 9 weeks before the mocks begin Pressure from lots of subjects to attend revision/catch up sessions Some assessment has already taken place for those subjects with coursework Students should be far more focused on what they want to do next – progression at 16 Students are going to feel more pressured

Attendance matters! “73% OF PUPILS WHO HAVE OVER 95% ATTENDANCE ACHIEVE FIVE OR MORE GCSES AT GRADES A* TO C (OR EQUIVALENT)” DEPARTMENT FOR EDUCATION 2017 IF AN EMPLOYEE TOOK ½ A DAY A WEEK OFF, HOW MUCH WORK WOULD NOT GET DONE AND WHAT WOULD THE RESPONSE BE? THAT IS THE SAME AS 90% ATTENDANCE

5 Year 11 Key dates Wednesday 26th September visit to BIC – The Careers & Apprenticeship Show Trip Tuesday 16th October – 6th Form Open Evening Thursday 18th October – Reports Available Tuesday 30th October - Parents’ Evening 1 Monday 12th November - Mock fortnight Wednesday 19th December - Mock Results Wednesday 12th December – Year 11 Reports Tuesday 8th January - Parents’ Evening 2 Tuesday 7th May – GCSE’s commence

6 Revision – How can you help?
Establish Learning Behaviours of successful students • Space, time and the right environment. • Help them to establish routines. • Talk to them about what they are learning.

7 Next Steps…. Revision timetable – is one in place and is revision happening regularly? A countdown to mock week – key revision tasks and knowledge to focus on Materials and exam boards – websites, revision books, past papers Plot the key dates for the year – know where the potential ‘stress’ points are
