5 The two year Sixth Form programme 2017-19
Term 1 Settling into a new tutor group (and possibly a new school). 3 or 4 (and for some) 5 subjects in Year 12. Focus on Study Skills Many opportunities to get involved from music, drama and sport to mentoring, volunteering and being a subject ambassador Publication of ALPs target grades Progress check 1 (published in November ) Parents’ Evening (Tuesday 5th December)

Term 2 Exam entries Introduction to Higher Education choices Progress Check 2 Year 12 report (including a predicted grade) Post-18 Options Evening (Tuesday 27th March) Term 3 Limited study leave and public examinations if you have chosen to enter Future Planning Conference Internal BSG examinations (start June 5th) Start second part of A level courses

7 A Level reform: period of transition has ended Linear (Reformed) A Levels
ALL subjects are now Linear Q. What does this mean? A. Your A level grade is wholly awarded on the exams you take in the summer of Year 13 (2019) There will be an option to take the stand alone AS qualification in Year 12 if you are considering dropping a subject.

8 Stand alone AS qualification (Summer 2018)
Taking an AS qualification is possible in every subject EXCEPT Art and Design English Literature Not possible to take a standalone AS qualification due to the nature of the course content. The AS and A level content is not co-teachable.

Term 4 Most reduce to 3 A levels (optional to stay with 4, or to add EPQ) UCAS applications and interview preparation Progress check 3 Year 13 Parents Evening Term 5 Applications to Further Education, Apprenticeships, Employment Mock exams Year 13 Report Practice Questions

January Visit to Bournemouth University campus March Post-18 Options Evening at BSG March Higher Education Convention at Bournemouth University Taster courses, residential preparation courses (MEDSIM, Sutton Trust etc) June Future Planning Conference Open Day visits in Summer and Autumn terms Work with tutors to prepare Personal Statement Early applications (Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science) by October 15th All other UCAS applications by January 15th Preparation for interview. Interview practice sessions. August A level results published Sixth Form and Careers staff available for help and support

17 Possible Challenges Studying less subjects in greater depth
Harder work and more of it. More independent learning expected/take responsibility for own progress Taking risks/moving out of their comfort zone Expectation on self/related to a career Greater independence (learning to drive/part-time job) Need to gain relevant work experience for future plans Increased social opportunities
