Mrs. Woodhall 6th/7th Grade Reading Welcome Back to School! Mrs. Woodhall 6th/7th Grade Reading

Introducing the Classroom Entering Mrs. Woodhall’s classroom When you come into the classroom there will often be something written on the board. This will typically be what you are supposed to be doing by the time the bell rings (Example: 15 minutes of silent reading, get ready for quiz, etc). This will also be the time when you sharpen pencils and double check to make sure you have ALL your needed supplies.

Introducing the Classroom Sharpening pencils Please try to sharpen pencils first thing upon entering the classroom. You may sharpen pencils throughout class at times when we are not in the middle of a lesson. If Mrs. Woodhall is up front or around the room teaching – we are in the middle of a lesson and that is NOT a good time to sharpen your pencils.

Introducing the Classroom Maintenance Tools A stapler, tape dispenser, and three-hole puncher are available for your use on top of the supplies drawers. You do not need permission to use these items. However, make sure before you use them that it is the appropriate time to do so

Introducing the Classroom Extra pencils/pens Mrs. Woodhall does not have extra pencils/pens for students to have. The extras can be found in the container on her desk. You do not need permission to use these items. However, if you wish to borrow a pencil of hers, you will need to give her your shoe in its place. When you replace her pencil you can reclaim your shoe.

Introducing the Classroom Extra copies Extra copies of worksheets are usually made, but are limited. If you need another copy of something, extra copies will be stored in the folders hanging from the brown cabinet. You do not need permission to use these items. There will be 5 folders – one for each day of the week. If you lose something that was handed out on a Monday – the extra copies of that sheet will be in the Monday folder.

Introducing the Classroom Book check-out We will only go to the library once a week to check out books. Instead, we use the books in the classroom. Mrs. Woodhall will give you 15 minutes of silent reading time once a week. You do not need to fill out any cards or sign your name anywhere. I TRUST you with my books – so please take care of them!

Introducing the Classroom Computer usage Students must ask for permission to use the computer in Mrs. Woodhall’s classroom.

Introducing the Classroom Lost and Found There is a Lost and Found in Mrs. Woodhall’s room. Any pencils, pens, scissors, glue sticks, etc. found around the room will be placed in the Lost and Found. If you need something (like a pen for grading) or lose something, this would be a good place to look!

Introducing the Classroom Graffiti Wall The Graffiti Wall is a place for students to write reviews of recent reading material. Anyone can contribute to the Wall, but please keep your thoughts brief to allow room for others. You may write on the wall before or after class – you do not need permission. Silver markers are available to use on the Graffiti Wall. They can be found hanging from the brown cabinet.

Introducing the Classroom Make-up work When you come back to school after being absent you need to ask Mrs. Woodhall what you missed while you were gone. It is YOUR responsibility to do this, complete the work, and turn it in within the allotted time. Refer to your Handbook for information regarding attendance policies.

Introducing the Classroom Turning in homework ALL homework will be due when class begins. Mrs. Woodhall will either collect it or we will grade it as a class first thing. Incomplete work will usually be accepted (meaning turn in what you have done). Some credit is better than no credit!

Introducing the Classroom Grading/Correcting papers We will do some grading in a class. You MUST grade with a pen – NOT a pencil. Students will grade their own papers and are required to make corrections. In doing this, students show they are participating in class and learning from any mistakes made.

Introducing the Classroom I need help! When you need help or have a question for Mrs. Woodhall you need to be patient. If Mrs. Woodhall is working around the room (not at her desk) you need to raise your hand and wait for her to come to your desk to answer your question. If Mrs. Woodhall is at her desk or at the front table, you may go up to her and ask her a question. If she is already helping someone, please wait for her to finish with that student and then take your turn. Mrs. Woodhall does not like to have a lot of students huddled around her!

Introducing the Classroom I’m finished…what do I do now? When you finish your work early you should study for the next Reading quiz/test or read. Reading class is not a Study Hall, so you must be prepared to work on Reading work. DOING NOTHING IS NOT AN OPTION!!!

Introducing the Classroom Locker trips You are not allowed trips to your locker without permission from Mrs. Woodhall. You will NOT always be permitted to go to your locker. Be RESPONSIBLE and come to class PREPARED! Remember: once the bell rings, you are not allowed to leave the classroom without permission.

Introducing the Classroom Restroom usage Unless it is an emergency you will not be allowed to use the restroom during class time. The restroom is to be used first thing in the morning, in between classes, during P.E., and before and after lunch.

Introducing the Classroom Desk maintenance The desks in the classroom are not your desks. Remember when you leave…someone else is going to sit in the desk you just left. Mrs. Woodhall is not responsible for lost items. DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING BEHIND IN A DESK – it probably won’t be there the next time you sit down!

Introducing the Classroom NO MAID SERVICE AVAILABLE!! Mrs. Woodhall’s classroom is not a trashcan! Please, clean up after yourself. This means throwing away garbage, putting books back where you got them, keeping desks in rows, etc. No one should clean up after you, except YOU!

Introducing the Classroom Dismissal Bells do not dismiss you – Mrs. Woodhall dismisses you! Mrs. Woodhall will tell you when it is time to pack up and leave.
