Students will build a solid foundation of knowledge, skills, and strategies that will be refined, applied, and extended as students engage in more complex ideas, texts, and tasks. Students will be introduced to various genres of classical and contemporary narrative and informational texts, while developing and enhancing their grammar and writing skills. Grading CLASS EXPECTATIONS We are striving to be 100% engaged, 100% successful, and 100% passing! I believe that every one of my students has the capacity to succeed with hard work and dedication. BE PROMPT Students must arrive to class on time by arriving early and being seated, and focused and ready to participate in all classroom activities BE PREPARED Students must bring materials needed for success such as their notebooks, pencils, books; use student planners and for organization BE POLITE Students must behave positively and professionally as ladies and gentlemen; understand bullying behavior and skills to prevent it; check with the teacher first when problems arise; conduct themselves in a way that shows respect for self and others BE PRODUCTIVE Students must work hard with quality effort and handwriting, stay on task, ask & answer questions, follow directions, complete assignments on time. Mrs. Taylor, M.Ed. HOMEWORK CLASS RULES Consequences Absentee Policy English 8 Mrs. Taylor, M.Ed. 2018-2019 CLASS RULES Consequences 2016-2017 Students are required to follow all district and campus polices/procedures in addition to my class rules. District and campus polices/procedures can be found in your student’s handbook. Class rules are as follows: Be on time, on task, and prepared to learn. - It is critical that your child be in class every day in order to obtain class instruction. Respect the teacher, the classroom, other students and yourself. Be responsible for your own learning. Clean up after yourself and your peers. Refrain from eating, drinking, chewing, and grooming. Follow the CHAMPS expectations. Warning: I will provide a verbal warning for misbehavior to student.. Parent Call: I will call parents to discuss behavior. Referral to Administration: Students will be immediately referred to administration for severe behavior problems. Absentee Policy YES, WE DID SOMETHING IMPORTANT WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT. Students are responsible for obtaining and completing ALL missed assignments. Students must obtain their make-up work. A make-up work basket will be available in the classroom. Make up assignments are due after the number of days missed plus 1 extra day. HOMEWORK Each student will be issued a textbook upon request of parent. Students will be provided notes/handouts with information to assist in studying and completing assignments. If homework assigned, it is expected to be completed on the due date. Homework grades will count toward the final grade. If students do not turn in their work on time, they will lose points. If late, there will be a ten point deduction per day. After three days, late work will not be accepted, and the student will receive a zero for that assignment. Plagiarism Cheating Plagiarism is the taking ideas and writings of another and passing them off as one’s own. In this class, plagiarism includes... 1. turning in another’s work as one’s own 2. copying work from a friend before class (or while in another class) 3. including a source but failing to cite it 4. copying an author’s exact words and passing them off as one’s own Students caught plagiarizing will be given a ZERO for the assignment. * The teacher will notify the administration and contact parents if cheating / plagiarism is suspected. * The student will be given a zero for that particular test or assignment.
