Week In Summary will be available through Chamlian’s website Office Hours: Mondays & Thursdays at lunch ROOM 105 CLASS PROCEDURES GRADES EXPECTATIONS Students are expected to try their best and work hard. Parents and teachers should have mutual goals and expectations for the students, which is to see each student become successful. The goal of this class is to strengthen communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills. This is a collaborative effort; therefore, I look forward to working with you and your child in making this year successful! Parents and students are strongly encouraged to check the MMS on a weekly basis to view the most current grades for EVERY class. Literature: Tests – 35% Quizzes – 25% Projects – 20% Homework/Classwork - 20% Language Skills Writing – 40% Grammar – 30% Participation – 10% Homework/Classwork – 20% My system of classroom management is simple. The class as a whole will have the opportunity to earn rewards such as a movie, free time to play board games, an ice cream party, pizza party, etc. CONSEQUENCES POINTS Each student will start off every two weeks with 50 participation points. He or she will, however, lose a point each time a classroom rule is broken. Participation will account for 10% of the student’s overall English Language grade.

2 LATE / INCOMPLETE WORK ABSENTEE POLICY TECHNOLOGY PLAGIARISM CHEATING
Mrs. Tina 7th English Literature & Language LATE / INCOMPLETE WORK ABSENTEE POLICY YES, WE DID SOMETHING IMPORTANT WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT. It is the student’s responsibility to check the Week in Summary or the teacher in order to find any assignments missed. A student has two extra days to turn in any work assigned on a day a student was absent. If a test was administered on a day a student was absent, it must be made up on the first day the student returns. If previously assigned work was due on the day of the absence, the work is due on the first day the student returns. My expectation is that ALL assignments be completed to a level of proficiency (70% or higher) and turned in on time. If an assignment is turned in but proficiency is not demonstrated, the assignment will be returned to the student and the work must be completed / redone until proficiency is achieved. Parents will be contacted (sign and return) every time an assignment receives lower than a 70%. Printer and Internet issues are not an excuse for late work. Late assignments will be marked down for each day after the due date. Assignments turned in later than three days after the due date will receive a zero. TECHNOLOGY Chromebooks will be used often in Language Arts. The majority of class assignments, projects, and assessments will be completed digitally through the Google Classroom or online via our new Language Arts portals, HMH and WriteSmart (my.hrw.com). Students are expected to abide by all school digital safety rules and guidelines. Failure to do so will result in said student being banned from technology while in Language Arts. PLAGIARISM CHEATING Plagiarism is the taking ideas and writings of another and passing them off as one’s own. In this class, plagiarism includes... 1. turning in another’s work as one’s own 2. copying work from a friend before class (or while in another class) 3. including a source but failing to cite it 4. copying an author’s exact words and passing them off as one’s own Students caught plagiarizing will be given a ZERO for the assignment. Cheating and plagiarism will have no place in our classroom. If a student is caught cheating, their test/quiz will be taken from them, parents will be notified, and they will receive a zero for the assignment. There are no exceptions to this rule.

I, ________________________________________, have read and understand the rules and expectations for Language Arts. I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to contact my teacher if I have any questions or concerns. I know that this syllabus, assignments, calendars, and resources are available to me on my teacher’s website and the Google Classroom at any time. I know that assignments can be submitted digitally at any time and that printer/computer/flash drive issues are not an excuse for late work.
