Class Rules
Arrive on time.
No cell phones allowed without my permission.
Have all materials with you and be prepared to work.
Listen during instruction and during class discussions.
Remain in your assigned seat unless asked to sit elsewhere.
Water in a clear container is the only drink allowed in class. No food.
Class Expectations.
Use restroom during passing breaks.
Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
Complete all of your work and turn it in on time.
Be respectful of yourself, your peers, and your teacher.
All IPHS rules and policies shall be observed within the classroom.
Chromebook Policy
While Chromebooks are a required device, students are expected to use them for educational purposes and only when instructed. Failure to comply will have the same consequences as class rules and may result in loss of device usage. Additionally, Chromebooks should be charged because outlets are limited.
Course Description
Welcome to English II. Our focus this school year will be learning and developing our skills as critical thinkers, readers, writers, speakers, and listeners. The development and mastery of these important literary skills not only is important to achieving success in the Language Arts classroom, it is a critical component of achieving success in other school subjects, building strong relationships with others, and attaining a flourishing career as an adult. Basically, the quality of life you experience now thorough adulthood will depend a lot on how well you read, write, and communicate with others.
What do I get if I follow class rules?
Your appropriate behavior in class assures everyone of an environment conducive to learning. Some possible rewards for continuous appropriate behavior are: intrinsic value (satisfaction of learning), improved skills, verbal praise, positive note to parents, tangible trinkets, and special class activities / privileges.
What are the consequences if I don’t follow class rules?

Where do I go to find agendas and assignments?
ipenglish1and2.blogspot.com is our class website. This site will house the weekly agendas, assignment due dates, copies of class handouts and presentations, student work, and more.
Please bookmark the site and check it daily.
Schoology is where discussion board posts will be located along with any reminders or announcements.

What happens if I turn in an assignment late?
Work not completed and turned in by the assigned date is considered late. If a student is absent on the date work is due, the assignment is due the first day the student returns to school. COMPLETED LATE WORK will only receive partial credit (10 points a day will deducted). INCOMPLETE LATE WORK will not be graded and will result in a zero for the assignment.
*Honors students will automatically receive a 30 point deduction on the first day and ten points each day following.

How will I check my grade in class?
Assessments / Major Essays = 40%
Daily Assignments and Quizzes=60%
Class progress reports will be sent electronically via or in paper form every three weeks. Parents and students are also strongly encouraged to check the Parent Portal on a weekly basis to view the most current grades for EVERY class.
What do I do if I am absent?
Always check the class blog site for agendas, handouts, and assignment due dates. Also, you should check the “student center” in the classroom for handouts. A student has one extra day to turn in any work assigned on a day a student was absent. If a quiz was administered on a day a student was absent, the quiz must be made up on the first day the student returns. If previously assigned work was due on the day of the absence, the work is due on the first day the student returns otherwise it is considered late.

All students will be expected to read independently. Students will receive novels throughout the year, and some reading will need to be completed outside of class. Honors students will be expected to complete most reading independently. A minimum of one novel per six weeks is required, and students will be given assignments relevant to the reading.
Plagiarism
Absolutely no plagiarism will be tolerated in any English class. Students will be taught to properly cite sources and should confer with the teacher about any uncertainty. Making note of sites that were used does not things can be copied word for word off the internet. A student who is caught plagiarizing must either redo the entire assignment or receive a zero depending upon the teacher’s policy. Students who redo assignments will only receive partial credit.
