Classroom Procedures and Rules

W E L C O M E…this is room 716 Mrs. Puckett, Reading You will need your agenda, a pencil, and a 1 ½ in binder with paper, a composition notebook, pencil and a highlighter. You will always need your agenda. Each day you will copy the homework on the board into your agenda. Today we will learn about our classroom procedures.

Heading Your Paper Georgia Bulldog 8/15/11 P. 3 Write your first and last name, date, and class period in the upper right hand corner of the paper. The assignment name is the title of the paper written across the top of the paper. Classroom Procedures

Classroom Procedures & Rules Enter the room quietly. Sit in your assigned seat each day unless the board says otherwise. Open agenda and copy today’s information. Be prepared & on time. Sorry, you will not be allowed to go back to your locker for something you have forgotten. 1. Entering the classroom

Classroom Procedures & Rules 2. Write with…? PENCIL only. Mechanical is fine. No erasable pens! Have pencils ready as soon as you come in. Do not get up to sharpen pencils during instruction. Even better… have your own sharpener available at your desk.

Classroom Procedures & Rules All warm-ups are completed on your hand outs provided. Be sure to date each warm-up and show your work. If you are absent, write the date of your absence and the word “ABSENT” on your agenda. This will help you to remember any work you need to make up. The warm-up page is collected once all warm-ups have been filled. (Friday) 3. Warm-ups

Classroom Procedures & Rules   You should only have your reading notebook & agenda on your desk. All other books and notebooks should be under your desk. Please keep aisles clear. Please raise your hand to speak or to leave your desk. Save all trash at your desk and throw away as you dismiss. Respect others and their property. Be an active listener & stay on task! Please ask questions—but they should be RELEVANT to what we are discussing at the moment. 4. During Class

Classroom Procedures & Rules 5. Homework Always copy HW assignments into your agenda. Unless specified, homework is due the day after it is assigned. This is your chance to practice new skills without fear of it bringing your grade down. We will go over the answers the next day, and sometimes the answers will be posted to the blog so you can check your own work. You must SHOW all work to receive credit.

Classroom Procedures & Rules Doing work in a timely manner is very important. This insures you will learn and practice information with the rest of the class. Completing work late makes it hard for you to ask questions and follow lessons. Check the late work policy in the resource folder. 6. Late Work

Classroom Procedures & Rules 7. Absent? Check the blog when you are absent. The homework will be listed. There is a lot of valuable information there to help you be successful. Always ask for any handouts/notes from the day absent.

Classroom Procedures & Rules 8. Dismissal The bell does not dismiss you, Mrs. Puckett does! Your area must be clean before you will be dismissed.

Classroom Procedures & Rules If you have left an item in the classroom, check the lost and found shelf in back of room. If you find an item, place it on the shelf. (UNLESS it is a valuable.) Please place “found” pens and pencils in the pencil holder for others to use. 9. Lost and Found

Classroom Procedures & Rules 10. Restroom Due to the fact that time is provided between classes for the restroom- using the restroom during class is for EMERGENCIES only. Ask at an appropriate time You will write a pass in your agenda on today’s date in Reading/ELA… YOU write: “RR and time” Teacher must initial

Classroom Procedures & Rules Students are expected to help one another and work together. Give RESPECT. Be RESPONSIBLE. Show COOPERATION. Be HONEST. DO your best.   11. Expectations

Supplies at least 2 sharpened pencils Student agenda at least 2 sharpened pencils 1 ½ inch 3 ring binder with loose leaf paper 2 pocket dividers Composition notebook Highlighter Worktext (will be assigned to you soon) Library book or current book you are reading

WHAT DO I DO WHEN I AM FINISHED? Go back and review your work Organize your notebook Start on your homework Study vocabulary Read

Classroom Procedures and Rules Quiz - True or False? To keep the classroom safe, I should not keep all my stuff in the aisles where a student or teacher might trip over it. I should throw my trash away immediately. It is okay to use a pen when I can’t find a pencil. If I don’t have everything I need, I can ask to go back to my locker. I can leave when the bell rings. Refreshing my lip gloss or getting a drink of water is a good reason to ask to use the restroom during class. My row will be dismissed even if there is paper on the floor. It’s the student’s responsibility to find out work missed after an absence. In the middle of a lesson about nonfiction elements, it would be appropriate for me to ask, “what time do we go to lunch?” The teacher blogs are a great resource for me.
