Using Google Calendar to organize school events PLU Action Plan for EDU 5508E: Using Google Calendar to Schedule School Events South Baldwin Center for Technology Kyle Davis Overlook Drive Loxley, AL

Plan  Implement Google Calendar as main source for scheduling school events  Need a tool to organize academic, athletic, club, band and all other school activities  Need a tool that will allow all stakeholders the ability to view school events  Google Calendar is that tool

Problems  Lack of Communication leads to event overlapping  Entitled staff members put their events in front of others  Uniformed administrators give permission to schedule events without knowing all the on goings of that particular date  Rescheduling events cost time, money, and can result in hard feelings

Objectives  Prevent school events from overlapping  Have a clear calendar of events  Informative schedule for all stakeholders to view  Allow for all students, faculty and community to attend and support the organizations in the events as much as possible  By obtaining these objectives the school calendar will become organized and efficient. It should make an immediate impact for the school.

Implementation  Approach my school administrator with the idea. Present him/her with the potential problems and my solution for this (Google Calendar)  The administrator will then inform the faculty of our new calendar idea, help them to set up a Google account, and ask for each of them to give him all the events that they will have in the upcoming year. This needs to be turned in by March of the current school year for the next year.  The administrator will then give this hard copy of events to the school secretary, who will then transfer the hard copy to Google Calendar. The different colors in the Google Calendar app will make for easy understanding as to what the event represents (i.e. academics, athletics, band, etc.).  The implementation of this Google Calendar will benefit students, faculty, staff, community, and all other stakeholders.  It needs no funding, therefore that is not a factor of sustainability.

Evaluating and Monitoring  The monitoring of the plan will really be a daily thing. Teachers can check the calendar through their Google account daily and see the upcoming events. Also the calendar can be posted on AV units throughout the school.  All existing events have already been viewed by the administrator and approved, any new events would have to be approved by him/or her and this is another way the calendar will be monitored.  The efficiency of the project will improve as the project progresses due to the accessibility and familiarity of the faculty and staff. Also the students and community will be more informed which in turn will lead to a better school atmosphere.
