8 OCLC Online Computer Library Center 8 Modifying Your Plan Your advocacy plan is flexible. If you cannot meet an objective, consider changing tactics or even the objective itself—whatever helps you meet your advocacy goal.

9 OCLC Online Computer Library Center 9 What Comes Next? No matter what your library environment is like, there are some steps you will need to take to introduce the advocacy plan to your library and get the support that is needed to implement the plan.

Q: A: 1.Write down the top five things you learned in this training. 2.Share what you learned with your team. 3.Revisit the Advocacy Action Plan. 4.Take stock of resources, materials, and information you have and need for library advocacy. 5.Check the calendar for upcoming opportunities.

11 OCLC Online Computer Library Center 11 Barriers to Success What are possible barriers to implementation and management of an Advocacy Action Plan? Q: A: People do not follow through and meet deadlines. There are competing library priorities. Ineffective communications. The advocacy team is too small to help implement the plan.

12 OCLC Online Computer Library Center 12 Possible Solutions What are some possible solutions for avoiding or overcoming those barriers? Q: A: Developing a clear schedule (timeline) Setting a realistic advocacy goal Establishing an advocacy team, so one person does not have all work Establishing regular communication within the team

13 OCLC Online Computer Library Center 13 Activity: Building Your Advocacy Team Your advocacy team is made up of the people whose approval you need or help you will rely on to put your advocacy plan into practice. Team members can include people within your library or library association, as well as partners and volunteers.
