Vacation Bible School Craft Helper Training

You are a Craft Helper Crafts is a place where kids make Bible Point crafts that remind them of each day’s Bible story and Point. We are so excited that you are here! Please continue through the training to see what adventures VBS will hold this year…

What is a Craft Helper? A friend and a helper Someone who is organized Someone who can follow directions Someone who can anticipate needs Someone who likes to do crafts Someone who likes to help others with crafts Someone who loves and encourages kids

What do I wear? Shorts of respectable length, Capris, or Pants Comfortable Shoes VBS T-shirt- can be picked up prior to VBS or it will be in the kitchen on Monday morning and MUST be worn everyday Station Leader Nametag- found in station envelope

Where do I start? Arrive on time 8:30 on Monday 8:45 on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday You will report directly to the lower preschool room on the first floor of the education wing. Stacy Burnworth is the Craft Station Leader. Please check-in with her upon arrival. Change into VBS t-shirt (Allow extra time)

Daily Materials In the craft room you will find a station envelope. It will remain in your room throughout the day. This will contain nametag labels for the station leaders for each day. As well as a…

Daily Schedule (example) Review the Crew and Grade Level- this will help determine how much assistance they’ll need Opening and Closing should be used as Break Times for prep and clean-up

Volunteer Sign In Sheet Each day you will need to fill out this form for insurance purposes.

Crew Labels Watson, Emily Scout #1 You will have one craft label for each child for each day. These will be separated into crews and handed to the Crew Leaders to place on the crafts.

What do I do? On a daily basis, you will be… Cut labels and sort them into crews When crew leaders arrive, hand them their labels Show crew leaders where to place nametag on each craft Encourage crew leaders to assist the kids in their crew Wipe up any spills that occur with a baby wipe When they are finished, send kids to the sink area or bathroom, with their crew leader, to wash their hands Carry finished craft to the drying table and place in designated area Direct kids to EXTRA craft table, after they have washed their hands Wipe up the table when kids are finished Reorganize tables for next crews coming in

Day One- Description Clip Boards Decorate flashlights What YOU will need to do: We will be painting the backside of the clip boards with chalk paint. After completing the clipboard, they will have time to decorate their flashlights with sharpies.

Day Two- Description Group A – Tic Tac Toe / Tie Dye Group B- Light switch / Finish Clipboard Group C – Candle making (older kids) Cave Sign (Younger kids) What YOU will need to do: Group A- create a tic tac toe board on canvas bag with a paint pen and use stones for X&O’s Group B – Decorate a light switch cover with puff paint and finish decorating clipboards with gems and notepad. Group C – Insert wick into votive the fill with melted wax, waiting a few min. between colors. Cave sign is a pre packaged kit for each child to create.

Day Five- Description Copper Etching (Older kids) Cave Art (Younger kids) What YOU will need to do: Copper etching – each child will needs a picture, piece of copper, felt and pencil. Trace the pic onto copper and then press the outline of the pic to make it stand out more. Cave Art- have kids trace their hands on a piece of paper with chalk and then scrunch up the paper. Trace all the creases of the paper and smudge all the chalk including their traced hand.

When it’s time to say Good-bye Your last group of children will leave to go to the closing at 11:30. Use this time to clean up and prepare for the next day. Stacy will instruct you on what needs to be done. Have a fantastic day!!!

Picture Policy Please refrain from taking and/or posting pictures of any children attending VBS, other than your own. If a child has “No Pictures – Media” on his or her nametag, please remove him/her if a newspaper, etc. approaches your crew. If a child has “No Pictures!” on his or her nametag, they are not to be in ANY pictures. Please let the VBS photographer know when he/she approaches your crew.

Safe Sanctuary Never be alone with a child. Always stay in a group of 3 or in line of sight of other adults if you have to talk to a child separately. If you suspect that a child in your care is being abused, please immediately bring this to the attention of one of the VBS Directors or one of the Pastors. Appropriate touch: Please let the child initiate hugs. Open Classrooms/Bathrooms: When taking children to the bathroom, keep the main door to the bathrooms open and stand in the hall to wait.
