2 WELCOME! While we are waiting, please help me put together your child's interactive notebook! - Write the following subjects on the tabs. (Math, Reading Workshop, Science, Health, Social Studies) Place the tabs in this order, then put the pencil bag back on top.

3 ABOUT MS. TAYLOR This is my 3 RD year at East Side. I graduated from Kennesaw State University in 2013. I am trained in Reading Workshop, have a Reading Endorsement, and I am currently Pursuing a Gifted Endorsement.

4 SCHEDULE 7:20-8:00 Arrival/ Morning Work 8:00-8:10 Morning Meeting 8:10-9:10 Math 9:10-10:10 Reading Workshop/ Snack 10:10-10:30 Health/ Science/ Social Studies 10:30-10:50 Recess 10:55-11:45 Specials 11:50-12:05 Lunch 12:09-12:39 Word Study/ Fundations 12:45-1:00 Writing Workshop 1:00-1:50 Pack Up 1:50-2:00 Dismissal

5 READING WORKSHOP Whole group mini lesson (10 minutes) Independent reading time (30 minutes) Partner reading time (10 minutes) Teacher conferences with individual students

6 WRITING WORKSHOP Whole group mini lesson Students independently work on their writing Teacher conferences with individual students Students will get to publish their work

7 MATH Common Core strategies Number Talks Math centers Students will rotate daily Teacher will meet with small groups of students during rotations

8 SPECIALS Our time is 10:55-11:45 We rotate daily between: Art PE Music Guidance Computer Lab Science Lab

9 LUNCH Our time is from 12:09 – 12:39 Please notify the lunchroom with a doctors note for any allergies. You can set limits for the extra items. Ice cream is only allowed on Fridays. When having lunch with your child, please sit at the guest table with only your child. Please meet us at the lunch room and say goodbye at the lunchroom.

10 SNACK Your child may bring in a snack each day along with a water bottle. Water only – no juice boxes Snacks without any tree nuts please! Snack is whenever the student is hungry. Keep the snacks healthy please – No Candy

11 BIRTHDAY TREATS You are more than welcome to bring in a “birthday treat” for you child. Please be aware that all treats need to be tree nut free. We have 23 students in the class. You may drop off the treats at the front office or send them in the morning with your child. Examples: cookies, donut holes, mini cupcakes, etc.

12 HOMEWORK Homework packets will be sent home on Mondays. Work on them throughout the week and return them on Friday. Read 20 minutes each night. Spelling Practice

13 WEEKLY CAPTAIN Each Friday we will choose a new “weekly captain” for the following week. This way each student will have his/her time to shine! Monday: Share the “All About Me” poster Tuesday: Share your favorite book Wednesday: Parents will write a love letter about their student and this will be read to the class Thursday: Someone special can come and eat lunch with your student Friday: Each child will say something nice about the “Weekly Captain”

14 CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT We will use Brag Tags to display and collect while building positive character traits. Example – Responsibility, kindness, respectful, honesty, etc. Notes or emails will be sent home if necessary. Check the progress report daily for up to date behavior and academic reports.

15 COMMUNICATION Weekly Newsletters comes home on Mondays Weekly Calendar for specials and events Weekly Progress Reports come home on Mondays Newsflashes for reminders Email is the best way to contact me: Jessica.taylor2@cobbk12.org

16 HELP YOUR CHILD AT HOME Read every night and write at home Help with their addition/subtraction facts Check their take home binder each night Instill responsibility Have an appropriate bedtime Read the weekly newsletter Keep in communication with me when needed

18 EXTRA INFORMATION Take Home Binders Yellow bag tags for bus riders Must send in a note if your child is going home a different way than normal. **No emails** Bus Pass/Bus Change Form (our website/school website) Sign up for Newsflash When sending in money, please put in an envelope (ASP, lunch money, etc.) Your Homework!!!
