Absences and Tardies It is important that your child make up work that is missed due to being absent. You may call the school for assignments. Remember your child is TARDY if they arrive after the 8:50 bell. If your child is tardy, they will miss valuable instructional time. They also miss completing morning assignments.

Specials Schedule Monday- Spanish Tuesday- Gym Wednesday- Music Thursday- Art Friday- Gym

Homework Homework in second grade helps to teach responsibility. Students should read at home at least 15 minutes per night. Home reading logs should be filled out and signed by a family member/guardian. There will also be required math homelinks each night as well. Other assignments will occasionally be assigned. This will include the child’s poetry book. Homework is due the following morning unless otherwise noted. If it is forgotten, the student will write a note home that needs to be returned with a guardian signature.

M.O.O.S.E. Folder (Organized Communication Every Achiever Needs) The folder will go home every afternoon, and it should be returned every morning. The folder contains the following items: Notes to and from Miss Closs and Home, Home Reading Log, Assignments, and the Weekly Newsletter Please look through the notebook carefully, check out all of the components and read all of the corresponding directions.

M.O.O.S.E. Folder Papers in the left pockets are to be LEFT at home, while papers on the right pocket are to be brought RIGHT back to school. Please help your second grader find a safe place to keep this folder at home (perhaps in a schoolbag). Students will also bring home their poetry folders every Friday. Please have your child read the poems to you briefly each weekend.

M.O.O.S.E. Folder Do… take very good care of your O.C.E.A.N. folder - we will be using it all year long take your O.C.E.A.N folder home every day and bring it back to school the next morning show your parents your O.C.E.A.N. folder every night and go over any homework put your homework back inside your O.C.E.A.N folder

M.O.O.S.E. Folder Don’t… leave your O.C.E.A.N. folder at home, in the car, or at a friend's house get your O.C.E.A.N. folder dirty; don't eat or drink around your O.C.E.A.N. folder put extra papers in your O.C.E.A.N. folder let someone borrow your O.C.E.A.N. folder

Family Involvement Read aloud to your child. Listen to your child read to you. Look over your child’s home folder each day Become a volunteer (can be done at day or at night at your home) Attend special school events

Celebrating Birthdays If you would like to send in a birthday treat for the class, please let me know 1 week in advance Plan a simple treat that is easy to serve (please no cupcakes or cake) In addition, the child may have a family member come in to be a guest reader.

Other Helpful Pieces of Information Book Clubs Snacks Student of the Week

Classroom Rules, Expectations & Consequences Students are in charge of their OWN BEHAVIOR School Rules: Be respectful, Be responsible, Be resourceful Classroom Expectations: Care about yourself, Care about others, Care about the environment around you (both inside and out)

Classroom Rules, Expectations & Consequences I believe in using logical consequences. Children need to reflect on their behavior in order to learn from it and to make better choices in the future. If a student is having a difficult day, they will write a reflection: What was I doing? Is it helping me/others to learn? What is my plan for next time? ***If the behavior is severe, the student will be sent to the office

Questions? Thanks for coming! I am looking forward to a great year! Please make sure that you take all of the handouts located on my table
