Classroom Rules Be Respectful Be Responsible Be Safe Be There, Be Ready Be Positive

Rewards/Consequences Students who obey the class rules will have a more enjoyable learning experience and receive full participation points for the day. However, students that do not follow the classroom expectations will lose participation points for each infraction. Frequent misbehavior will involve parental involvement and commitment on corrective action. If poor behavior continues, there will be further corrective actions decided by the parents, administration, and teacher.

Participation Learning to participate and be involved in a community is a core reason why social studies is taught. That is why participation is a crucial part of every student’s grades. Everyday the students can earn five points for participation. In order to be a good participator in the class and earn all points, each student needs to do several things. First, they need to be there on time and ready to learn. Secondly, they need to be on task and follow classroom procedures. Finally, they are to be engaged in the discussion or class learning activity. Participation is worth 10% of the student’s total grade. There are several things that will drop a student’s participation grade. This includes being tardy, not being ready to work, breaking class rules, and failing to be involved in group activities.

Consequence Process 1 st Warning-Just a warning 2 nd Warning- 2 minutes after class and drop in participation grade. 3 rd Warning-Think time, lose all participation points for day

Think Times 1 st -Note Home, Drop in Citizenship grade 2 nd -Note Home, Drop in Citizenship grade, and phone call. 3 rd -Same as above but a detention is added.

Bullying Bullying is destructive to a safe environment and learning is hindered dramatically when it is present. Therefore, any type of bullying will not be permitted in the classroom. Bullying includes, but is not limited to; swearing at another individual, derogatory comment at anytime, any form of put down, negative peer pressure, fighting, etc… Any student caught bullying will have a parent/guardian contacted immediately. If the offense is serious, or continues to happen after parental contact, the student’s behavior will be reported to the administration for review.

Attendance Refer to your student handbook… People that are tardy need to sign in when they enter the room. Unexcused tardiness will result in a drop in your participation grade for the day.

Pop Quizzes Be ready for them….* *most pop quizzes are given due to poor classroom behavior

Absent If you are absent it is your responsibility to find out what you miss. It is always a good idea to copy notes from a neighbor/friend. Do not copy homework

Cheating-DO NOT DO IT If caught cheating or appear to be cheating you will…  Get a zero  Parents will be contacted  Possible administration involvement

Grade Percentage Breakdown Participation-10% DEAR/DEAW-10% Assignments/Homework-40% Test-20% Journals-10% Projects-10%

Projects There will be a project for each semester in my class. It will be worth ten percent of your grade each quarter* Late final projects will not be accepted. *Percentage may change

Homework Will average about two a week. Usually they will be due on Wednesday and Friday. Every Friday will be a current event. Each current event needs to be one page long. It needs to include the information you learn and your opinion.

Substitutes Treat them well or else….

Hall Pass You will be allowed to use the Hall Pass three times a quarter. Make sure to sign the hall pass sheet. If you forget you may lose your privileges.
