1 Classroom Expectations 6 th Grade Social Studies Mrs. Sims

2 Attendance Be here! We like you and want to see you every day. Remember when absent it is your responsibility to inquire about missed assignments. If your homework was not picked up while you were absent your first stop should be in the office to retrieve it!

3 Classroom Rules: Be prompt Be ready to learn when class begins. Accumulated Tardies will affect your color level. Raise your hand before talking and leaving your seat. Leave other students alone. Treat School property with respect. DO NOT carve or write on your desk. DO NOT tip back in your chair. Put trash in appropriate place (do not shoot baskets with the trash). No candy! (unless provided by me) Any broken rules will result in a behavior contact and consequences assigned.

4 Classroom Poison The following items constitute classroom poison 1.Complaining 2.Whining 3.Moaning and Groaning 4.Swearing 5.Gossip When the classroom is poisoned, I will say freeze the person or persons who poisoned the classroom will be asked to apologized to me and the rest of the class. If an apology is not given then you will receive a behavior contact and consequences assigned.

5 Show Respect: No student will interfere with the learning of any other student. Respect your classmates and me at all times. Respect me and I will respect you! Be a polite and positive participant Cooperate even if you think something is dumb Speak in a normal tone of voice, and listen attentively. Be productive Turn in work on time, and always do your best. Be a problem solver Correct problems quickly and peacefully before they escalate. Treat all members of the school community and all visitors with politeness and respect.

6 Respect continued Honor the ideas and opinions of others. Offer to help. Be responsible with property and belongings. Be honest: all students involved in cheating will receive a zero, parents will be notified, negative contact will be assigned. Violations of academic dishonesty can accumulate and therefore harsher consequences can be assigned.

7 Responsibility for Homework Be prepared Have materials with you: Social Studies Book everyday unless the whiteboard states otherwise. 3 subject notebook Assignment book Pencil Red checking pen All assignments are posted on lower right corner of the white board. Assignments are due the day, hour, and time specified by me. If the assignment is not turned in on time, incomplete, or score below a 65% your will be marked with a homework contact.

8 Assignment Book Your assignment book contains your pass card, therefore it will be important for you to have it with you at all times! Your assignment book is your pass to the restroom, nurse, locker, etc. In 6 th grade we make you use it!!! Your assignment book is an important tool for your success. By filling it out daily and hourly, you will always know what is going on and when homework, projects and tests are due.

9 Assignment Book continued Your assignment book is also your parents way of knowing what is going on in school. We will record your grades on your pass card the last day of every week. It will also contain your color level if you don’t have your assignment book then you will be dropped to the lowest color level until it is found. You assignment book should be closed when not in use in the classroom…not doing this will result in a negative contact!!! *We will discuss the color leveling system in detail tomorrow.

10 Classroom Procedure: I will meet you at the door everyday. I might be in the classroom or in the hall, please do not enter my room without permission from me. When you enter my room you will look me in the eye and speak, and give me a high five, hand shake, knuckles, elbow or something! You will go to your seats. Fill out your assignment book. Get out your journal and start writing. The journal prompt will always be on the smart board or written on the white board. We will discuss journal expectations on Friday or Monday.

11 Grading All Grades are percentages. Points are based on: Daily work 10% (journal & effort) Homework 15% (daily work) Quizzes 20% Assessments 30% Projects 25% The Grading Scale is the same for all MMS students. The scale can be found in the assignment book and posted around the classroom.

12 My Pledge to Students I will trust you until you give me reason to do otherwise. I will respect you and work with you to solve problems. I will work with you to meet learning goals. Lets Have a Wonderful Year!!!!!
