The Industrial Revolution A.P. European History – Ch. 21

The Agricultural Revolution Because of new farming processes fewer and fewer people were needed to produce food. In the seventeenth century 70% of Great Britain was involved in agricultural production. By the nineteenth century this number had dropped to 2%. The Enclosure Movement Advancements in technology and innovation in farming practices.

The Industrial Revolution in England Coal was the backbone of the Industrial Revolution. The Steam Engine The Iron Industry “Cotton is king.” The Iron Horse and the spread of railways.

Innovators and Entrepreneurs James Watt invents the steam engine. John Kay invents the flying shuttle. Josiah Wedgwood pioneered new management and marketing techniques including specialization of labor. Robert Owen created worker-friendly factory systems and pioneered child labor restrictions, shorter work days, pensions and communal regulation.
