Session 2 Achievement Testing Pre-Test Training This is Session 2 of the Achievement Testing Pre-Test Training. I am Mary Pat Wood, State Test Coordinator for Achievement Testing. This session will cover Test Administrator responsibilities for all Achievement Tests for the School Year 2015-2016. Achievement Tests include both the AzMERIT tests and AIMS Science tests. Test Administrator Responsibilities AzMERIT and AIMS Science School Year 2015-2016

Test Administrator Responsibilities A Test Administrator should be assigned to each testing room. If the number of students testing in the room requires it, Proctors may also assist the Test Administrator during the administration of the test. All adults that will be in the testing room, must be familiar with all Test Coordinator responsibilities. Test Administrator Responsibilities

Test Administrators and Proctors Test Administrators must be employees of the school/district/charter; Proctors must also be employees of the school/district/charter and may be assigned to assist Test Administrators Test Administrators and Proctors must follow test administration procedures. No adult can be in a testing room without having been trained and signed a Test Security Agreement. All Test Administrators must be employees of the school/district/charter. Proctors must also be an employee of the school/district/charter and may be assigned to assist Test Coordinators. All test administration procedures must be followed exactly as indicated in the Test Administration Directions. No adult can be in a testing room without having been trained for each test administration and signed a Test Security Agreement. Throughout this training I will refer to only Test Administrators, but if Proctors will be assisting the Test Administrators, they will be required to follow the same procedures. Test Administrators and Proctors

Test Administrator Test Administrators must be Trained in proper test security; Trained in proper test administration procedures. Sign and return the Test Security Agreement 2015-2016. Be thoroughly familiar with the Test Administration Directions. All Test Administrators must be thoroughly familiar with the Test Administration Directions and must follow the test administration procedures including the scripted directions. Test Administrator

This section will cover Test Security.

Test Security Agreement Test Administrators Proctors School Administrators Warehouse personnel, and any adult that will be in contact with Achievement Test during the school year. Only required to sign once for school year 2015-2016. Must be signed and stored at district/charter for 6 years. The Achievement Test Security Agreement covers both the AzMERIT and AIMS Science tests and only needs to be signed once for the school year. All security agreements must be signed prior to materials being received in the district/charter. These signed security agreements must be retained in the district/charter for 6 years. Test Security Agreement

Test Security Agreement All test materials are restricted Test materials will be kept under lock and key except during actual test times No student will be allowed to remove test materials from testing room No adult will erase or change any student response or marks from any scorable document By signing the Security Agreement the Test Administrator agrees: No adult can erase or change any student responses or any marks, including stray marks on a scorable test booklet or answer document. Test Security Agreement

For both AzMERIT and AIMS Science, it is unethical and will be viewed as a violation for any person to: Capture images of any part of the tests via electronic devices Duplicate any part of the tests, Examine, read, or review the content of any portion of tests, Discuss any test items. It is unethical and will be viewed as a violation for any person to: Capture images of any part of the AzMERIT and AIMS Science test via any electronic device; Duplicate any part of the AzMERIT or AIMS Science test; Examine, read, or review the content of any portion of the AzMERIT or AIMS Science test. Test Security

For both AzMERIT and AIMS Science, it is unethical and will be viewed as a violation for any person to: Allow students access to any test content prior to testing, Allow students to share information during test administration, Allow students to use scratch paper during the ELA Reading test, Read any part of the test to students except as indicated in the Test Administration Directions or as part of an accommodation. For both AzMERIT and AIMS Science, it is unethical and will be viewed as a violation for any person to: Influence students’ responses by making any kind of gestures while students are taking the test; Examples: pointing to items, holding up fingers to signify item numbers or answer responses. Instruct students to go back and reread/redo responses after they have finished their test. Students are given these instructions prior to testing. Review students’ responses, Read and review students’ scratch paper. Reading and reviewing students’ scratch paper is another test security violation. Test Security

Test Administrator Responsibilities Test Administration Directions will be provided for each test administration. Test Administration Directions must be reviewed in advance of the testing dates. Test Administrator must be familiar with Test Administration Directions prior to the day of testing. Test Administration Directions will be provided for each test administration. Test Administrator Responsibilities Adhere to the test security procedures, Follow the Test Administration Directions exactly as stated, Read aloud to the students the scripted directions exactly as stated, Request guidance from the Test Coordinator when unusual circumstances arise or when uncertain about proper procedures. Any unusual circumstances that arise during testing or any questions that the test administrators are uncertain about check with your Test Coordinator. Test Administrator Responsibilities

Additional Responsibilities AzMERIT CBT Complete the Test Administrator Certification Course in TIDE Confirm student accommodations and/or test setting in TIDE Approve AzMERIT tests only for the appropriate students After students have logged into the AzMERIT, Test Administrators must approve them to take the test. It is the responsibility of the Test Administrators to approve AzMERIT testing access to only the appropriate students. Additional Responsibilities AzMERIT CBT

Additional Responsibilities AzMERIT PBT and AIMS Science Receive the test materials from the Test Coordinator, Verify the quantity of test materials received, Distribute and collect all test materials on testing days, and Complete the accommodations. Return all test materials to the Test Coordinator. Test Administrators will have additional responsibilities for AzMERIT Paper-Based Tests and AIMS Science tests. Test administrators must receive the test materials each day of testing from the Test Coordinator. It is important that the quantities of test materials received are verified. Test Administrators will distribute and collect test materials on testing days. For students that receive accommodations, it will be the responsibility of the Test Administrators that provided accommodations to mark these accommodations on the student scorable document. Additional Responsibilities AzMERIT PBT and AIMS Science

Students with significant cognitive disabilities and whose IEP designates them eligible for Alternate Assessments are excluded from AzMERIT and AIMS Science testing. Students to be tested

Most students enrolled in Grades 3 – 8 will be expected to take AzMERIT tests in the content areas of English Language Arts and Math tests at the grade level in which they are enrolled. New for this year -- Students taking high school level courses with an EOC test will not be required to take the grade level test for that content area. For Example, students in Grade 8 taking Algebra I will take the AzMERIT Algebra I EOC test but will not take the AzMERIT Grade 8 math test. AzMERIT Grades 3 - 8

Students’ grade level is not a factor in determining whether or not to participate in AzMERIT EOC testing. Students will take EOC test during the semester that the course is completed regardless if the credit is actually earned. For AzMERIT EOC testing, student’s grade level is not a factor in determining whether or not a student will participate in AzMERIT EOC testing. AzMERIT EOC for Language Arts Typical names for courses: Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior English course, English 9, 10, 11 Other course names including advanced courses may be Honors, AP, or IB Other non-traditional course names may be Shakespeare, Mythology Any English courses intended to provide students with their first three years of high school English credit English courses are typically named Freshman English, Sophomore English, and Junior English or something similar, but other courses and other course names, including advanced courses and non-traditional courses may be used. AzMERIT EOC for Language Arts

AzMERIT EOC for Math Typical names for courses: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II Other course names including advanced courses may be named Honors, AP, or IB Other non-traditional course names may be Integrated Math Any Math courses intended to provide students with their first three years of high school Math credit Math courses are typically named Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II or something similar, but other courses and other course names, including advanced courses and non-traditional courses may be used for these first three years of high school level math. AzMERIT EOC for Math

AIMS Science Students in Grades 4 and 8 are expected to test. High school students Cohort 2018 (generally tenth-grade students) Students who did not participate in Spring 2015 administration of AIMS Science are expected to test Cohort 2019 (generally ninth-grade students) Enrolled in life science course that is aligned to Strands 1-4 of the Arizona Academic Content Standard for Science may participate in Spring 2016 administration. All students in Grades 4 and 8 are expected to test on AIMS Science. High school students in Cohort 2018, generally tenth-grade students, are expected to test during the administration of the Spring 2016 AIMS Science unless they participated in the Spring 2015 administration of the AIMS Science. Students in Cohort 2019, generally ninth-grade students, if enrolled in life science course that is aligned to Strands 1-4 of the Arizona Academic Content Standard for Science may participate in Spring 2016 administration. AIMS Science

Test Administration Schedule The District Test Coordinator is responsible for communicating the specific testing schedule to Test Administrators, Proctors, students, and parents/guardians. The testing schedule must comply with the guidance in the Test Administration Directions. Test Administration Schedule

AzMERIT Sample Tests - CBT The purpose of the sample tests is to allow the students to become familiar with the AzMERIT Computer-Based testing system and the different formats of AzMERIT test questions. The Sample Tests are not to be used as a predictor of performance on upcoming AzMERIT tests. AzMERIT Sample Tests - CBT

AzMERIT Sample Tests - PBT Test Administrators must ensure students are familiar with how the Computer-Based Test items will render on the Paper-Based form of the test. Students that will be taking the AzMERIT Paper-Based Tests should also be familiar with the various item types that will appear on the paper based version of the AzMERIT test. All Test Administrators must ensure that students are familiar with how the innovative computer-based item types will render on the paper-based form of the test. AzMERIT Sample Tests - PBT

Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3 must be scheduled in order. Testing days do not have to be consecutive. A break must be give on Days 2 and 3 between the Reading and the Math session. AzMERIT is untimed. AIMS Science Test Schedule AIMS Science Test Administration Test Window: Monday, March 14, 2016 – Friday, April 22, 2016 Grade(s) Session(s) – Approximate Time 4 and 8 2 sessions (Part 1 and Part 2) 45-60 minutes each High School 1 session 2 hours High School Science tests is administered in 1 session of 2 hours. Students may have a brief stretch break during the test session. AIMS Science Test Schedule

For better student performance each room should: Have good lighting Have good ventilation Be free from distracting noises and interruptions. All visual aids displayed in the testing room that could assist students while testing must be removed or covered completely. Acceptable Resources – AIMS Science Grade 8 Poster-size versions of the AIMS Science Reference Sheet Copies removed from the test book during testing must be returned with the student test book. The poster-size version of the AIMS Science Reference Sheet for Grade 8 may remain posted during AIMS Science testing for Grade 8 only. This is available as a download from the ADE Web site. Students do receive a copy of this reference sheet in their AIMS Science Grade 8 Test Book. Students test materials are returned to the Test Coordinator at the end of the testing day with the other test materials. Paper version tests would include the AzMERIT Paper-Based Tests, AIMS Science Tests, and students that required Braille or Large Print version tests. Ending CBT Testing As student completes Computer-Based Test: Test Administrator must verify that the student has submitted his/her test; Collect any scratch paper from the student, Test Administrators must check that TA Interface is showing “Submitted” for student. After student has completed testing, student may read or do classwork quietly. Student may not use any electronic device. After student status has been verified as “Submitted” and the Test Administrator has collected the students scratch paper, the student can read or do classwork quietly until the end of the scheduled test session. Ending AzMERIT PBT As student completes Paper-Based Tests: Test Administrator must confirm that the student’s handwritten name is on the test booklet cover and matches the name on the Student’s Pre-ID Label; Collect any scratch paper from the student, After Test Administrator has collected test booklet and scratch paper, student may read or do classwork quietly. Student may not use any electronic device. After the Test Administrator has collected the student’s test booklet and scratch paper, the student can read or do classwork quietly until the end of the scheduled test session. All Paper Versions Tests Once students have completed testing and turned in their AzMERIT test booklet or AIMS Science answer document, no student or adult can go back and review, change, or correct the test booklets for any reason. This includes checking for missing responses, duplicate responses, checking for stray marks or for any other reason. AzMERIT test booklets and AIMS Science answer documents will be returned for scoring as completed by the student. For both the AzMERIT Paper-Based Tests and the AIMS Science, once a student has completed testing and turned in their AzMERIT test booklet or AIMS Science answer document, no student or adult can go back and review, change, or correct the test booklets or answer documents for any reason. This includes checking for missing responses, duplicate responses, checking for stray marks, or for any other reason. Marking Accommodations All Paper version tests Test Administrator or Proctor that witnessed or provided the accommodation. Mark all appropriate accommodations that were used. For students who received testing accommodations, the Test Administrator or Proctor who witnessed the use of the testing accommodation(s) or who actually provided these testing accommodation(s) must mark the accommodation(s) used in the appropriate area on the test booklet for AzMERIT or on the answer document for AIMS Science. Mark the appropriate bubble using a No. 2 pencil for every accommodation the student used. Marking Accommodations All Paper version tests

Use No. 2 pencil, mark the student's responses exactly as indicated by the student. If the student marks more than one answer choice for a particular test item, mark the standard test booklet or answer document the same way. If the student leaves a particular test item unanswered, leave the same test item unanswered. For the ELA Writing response and any other open-ended items, transfer the students response exactly as produced by the student without changing spelling, punctuation, word choice, or any other aspect of the student response.
