13 Colonies 3 types of Colonies 1.Charter – (Connecticut, Rhode Island) Group of settlers given a charter 2.Proprietary (Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania) Individuals given a charter – free to rule as they pleased 3.Royal Colonies (Georgia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, N. Carolina, S. Carolina, Virginia) Directly ruled by Britain – king appointed a governor Govt (in general) Limited government (Magna Carta 1215) Representative Government – (white, male, land owners)
