25 Southern Colonies  3. Carolinas  A refuge for French protestants.  Spanish threatened to attack; owners refused to help.  So colonist overthrew the company and they became a royal colony.  Then divided into North Carolina and South Carolina.

26 Southern Colonies  4. Georgia  James Oglethorpe founded GA as a refuge for debtors.
