What is a Logo? Represents a company, or an organization Forms a corporate identity Designed for easy and definitive recognition for the company’s audience

History… Ancient Greece typically represented the initial letters of a person or place for use on stationery and signs I.e. rulers and coinage By 17 th C the logo had become a tradmark for merchants i.e. marks for masons, goldsmiths, paper makers,and nobility.

Industrial revolution caused a great gain of importance for trademarks Trademarks moved beyond symbols, using larger design systems to unify all communications, and to accomplish identifiable goals. Today a well thought out logo and corporate identity become central to companies defence

Why are Logos important? Logos trigger memories of a persons prior experience with a company/organization a greater impact than words could ever have No explanation is needed A logos success impacts a company’s sales An amateur logo will describe an amateur company

What Makes a Good Logo? Simplicity Too much information will have a negative impact Instant Recognition Versatile Should consider all possible implementations your logo could be used in Distinctive

Logo Design Process… A client will typically give a written description of what they are looking for in a logo design Parameters + Purpose Decide a target demographic

Concept Development Designer will create simple sketches of the logo concept Refinement Usually 3 or 4 revisions Colour introduced at this stage

Delivery Assemble a package which shows how you can apply the logo to different applications
